This past week, OpenAI dumped a staggering trove of answers to elusive math problems solved by its internal artificial intelligence models – the mathematics world isn’t happy about it. “What are they trying to achieve? I don’t know. They’re just destroying early-career mathematicians with a PR stunt,” says NYU math professor Tristan Buckmaster. Buckmaster and his collaborator Levent Alpöge had made significant progress on solving an historic math equation before OpenAI’s model beat them to it. They’ve “destroyed the whole incentive system for science and mathematics.”

This was going to happen eventually.

The premise is simple. It's a Danganronpa ripoff, with a mix of decision tree dialogues and chatbot dialogues. Of course, the art is all made by AI too. But that's not the important part. Check this out:

They want $12 for a full playthrough, and $3 for an Ironman run. In other words, the $12 run is considered complete when you hit an ending. The other is considered complete when you reach an ending or die. Either way, all of your saves are deleted when your run is considered complete.

It is possible to see the restrictions of the cheaper option, which are:

Speaking of which, the game isn't even officially out yet. Anyone who gives these people money must be a particular kind of dumb. Considering that these guys don't allow anything other than their service to run the AI generation, it wouldn't surprise me if they put a hidden flag in their game that tries to kill the player character as soon as possible when they're using the cheap option. If they can get enough suckers to pay up, they can make a decent profit that way.

And judging by the reviews made by 餐巾纸 and H, it looks like at least some of the reviewers were bribed with playthrough tokens.

  • (其实我写下这份评价就可以获得一枚挑战币,但为了证明我不是托,我并不会去兑换这一枚挑战币,立此贴为誓)- (I can get a challenge coin for writing this review, but to prove that I am not a shill, I will not redeem this coin. Seriously.)
  • (官方整的福利,评价100字以上送一个兑换极限模式游玩一次的货币。虽说这样,但如果游戏不行我也不会为了一次游玩机会来写测评)- (I can get a challenge coin by writing a 100 word review. Keep in mind I wouldn't write a review just for the chance to play if I thought the game sucked.)

New York City has also banned AI for younger students as concerns over classroom use grow

Another school district has banned AI from being used in the classroom by students across all grades. While this isn't the first ban of its kind that we've seen, what's interesting is that it was introduced just weeks after the district started piloting Google Gemini for older students. Frederick County became the latest school district to ban AI use in the classroom this week, voting 6-1 to restrict the technology from pre-K through 12th grade. Initially, the board considered only banning AI for younger students, but eventually extended the ban through high school.

The developer behind Teach My Little Sister How to Drive, a driving instruction sim where you instruct a generative-AI-powered, dynamic NPC, has been spending $1,000 dollars a day to keep the demo working.

Gotta make sure the people currently being bombed out of existence don't sound too resentful about it, after all

So, lately I have been seeing AI bros always using the "It democratizes coding/game dev/modding/drawing/music creation/video editing/insert a hobby that requires actual skills" argument. And it always just irritates me.

Like, democratizing a skill means giving everyone an equal opportunity, which is what free (specially FOSS) tools do, think Krita, Blender, Godot, etc... You get the tools that you need for said hobby free of charge thanks to the GOATed people that maintain them. And then you learn it.

But AI, it just works on the basis of who has more disposable income to feed the capitalist machine. Like where is the "democratization" when the person with more money gets the better experience. Isn't that the era of paid software all over again? isn't that literally the opposite?

Yeah, so that is the end of my rant, I just wanted to vent out to people who will understand that sort of thing (talking about a fine echo chamber ;) )

And I hope people point out that stupid argument when they see meatproxies using it :)

That's the amount of economic value AI will have to deliver to justify all the investment

Anthropic is making changes to its usage policy for the first time in over a year to reflect new and high-risk cases of misuse — including election interference, weapons development, surveillance, and health and financial uses. But one of the most significant changes prohibits “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude.

Last August, the company announced it would allow Claude to end conversations with “persistently harmful or abusive” users as part of its research into “model welfare.”

I wonder. Does that made this community a terrorist organization?

Why does anyone play fantasy football? This is not a trick question, although it's also not particularly difficult to answer. Perhaps they do it for money, or they enjoy football, or they want a shared activity to help stay in touch with friends or family. Whatever the reason, the fun is in picking your guys and managing your little team and hoping you win more often than you lose. Some people have a healthier relationship to this endeavor than others. Still, if none of it appeals to you, then you can always not do it.

Finnish authorities have ordered a halt to building work at two planned Google data centres amid concerns over the clearance of more than 300 hectares of forest.

The sites form part of Google's record €13bn (£11bn; $15bn) investment in Finland, announced less than a month ago and described by the company as its largest single investment in Europe.

The Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) said work at one site was carried out without a mandatory environmental impact assessment and ordered measures that would "significantly alter the environment" to be suspended by 23 October.

Google said it had "fallen short of our own high standards in this instance" and would follow the agency's guidance.

The orders relate to preparatory work carried out at the planned data centre sites in Muhos and Kajaani.

According to LVV's head of environment Tommi Muilu, work at the sites included the removal of trees and topsoil, the construction of site roads and storage areas, and changes to ditches.

Tuike Finland, the company behind Google's data centre projects, has been asked to provide an explanation and set out how it intends to proceed by 14 October. The agency said it could begin "enforcement proceedings" if the company failed to comply with its demand.

Hanna Halmeenpaa, chair of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, had previously told the AFP news agency that "nature sites which should be preserved" had been felled. The conservation group had previously called for work to be halted while the environmental requirements were examined.

In a statement to the BBC, Google said: "We understand the concerns and have fallen short of our own high standards in this instance."

It said it had "acted in good faith under the Forestry Act", carried out nature surveys and put measures in place to protect areas of high environmental value.

"As we continue our long-term work in the region, we are advancing our landscaping and biodiversity plans, which include tree planting across 130 hectares at Muhos," the company added.

Google announced last month that it would invest at least €13bn (£11bn; $15bn) in Finland over 2027 and 2028. Its plans included new data centres in Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala, alongside investment in its existing facility in Hamina.

The company said the infrastructure would help it meet growing demand for services including Search, Maps and its AI assistant Gemini.

Google said the construction phase in 2027 and 2028 would support more than 37,000 jobs and contribute an average of €3.6bn a year to Finland's economy.

As part of its expansion, Google also signed a 22-year power purchasing agreement with Finnish energy company Fortum covering up to half the capacity of the Loviisa nuclear power plant. Fortum said the agreement would help support the plant's continued operation until 2050.

Finland has attracted growing interest in data centres, with its cool climate and low-carbon electricity among the factors making it attractive to developers. Lower temperatures can also reduce the energy required to cool facilities filled with computer servers.

Taking away the learning, the sense of progression and the very soul of things.
I'm not convinced.

Source

Of course! Absolutely! Always!

It's impossible to be "convinced" by this utter narrow-minded, degrading, obliterating, permanently damaging sorrow...

Art has meaning, weight, priceless value, the purpose... only when it's of a human work...
Regardless, whether it's an asset, texture, shape, shader...
This is all what is to be preserved in the history...
Of the history of us, miracles, human...

It would then have a Human's name on it...
Who lived, learned, experienced... and expressed their unique view in a work to pass further...
The artist's name may not be advertised, but it would exist and always possible to find to glorify...
Since isn't it one of the main purposes of Art? To achieve, experience, to express and learn from each other...

Now, it has no name on it. It's empty. It radiates with screams and cries in painful sorrow... of unknown effort and love now decimated and passed through an algorithm of shallow hopelessness at vacuumed void...

If I ever see anything related to AI in any art-related subjects, I don't even consider it but skip it - it's a disgusting empty noise that does not deserve any human time nor effort.

All these "AI" infestations are pure awful disrespect to our ancestors, the Human history... and our dear future...

And I will never consider it. It would mean death to me, since there's no hope nor purpose in it to live for.

TranscriptExplain it to me like I’m 80

Mom: What’s with these AIs escaping and hacking people? That sounds scary.

Me: You park your car at the top of a hill. You leave a note on the dashboard that says “please be good” and then you pull the parking brake. The car careens down the hill, smashes everything up, and you put out a press release saying “My car ignored my instructions! It hallucinated! It went rogue!” Your insurance company not only believes you, but invests a hundred million dollars in your company.

Mom: Jesus Fucking Christ
