RuneScape’s been around for 25 years, and let’s be honest, the player avatar has gone through a lot over that time. Updating it and bringing it in line with more modern standards has been something the community’s wanted for ages, and later this month we’re finally taking that big first step. Before that, though, we want to give you an opportunity to have a sneak peek at what’s coming and even let you get hands-on with how your character will look when the project formally launches!

Double XP is back after its long hiatus and kicks off today [Apr 30]! In classic fashion, this is a 10-day event where you have 48 hours of Double XP to use at your leisure. The event will end May 10th. You can also pause the timer if you'd like to do other activities that aren't focused on the XP gains.

This is the first DXP event since last November and RuneScape has changed in some pretty meaningful ways since then so we wanted to give a quick round-up to help you get started.

It's been a few weeks now since our previous Player Avatar introduction and it's time for another check-in!

As a quick reminder:

• The Player Avatar is the character model and its foundational customizations (gender, hair style, top, legs, shoes and facial hair as well as the colour variations that are available to each of these aspects) that you chose when you first created your character. It's quite likely that you have changed a few aspects, such as your hair style or your base shirt and trousers since then.

• The Player Avatar is what is beneath all that armour that you wear after you spent hours agonizing over its details. It is the chathead you see every time you speak to an NPC in game.

Since our last update we've been busy with the work of ungrafting heads and skins from their old components and preparing them for use with the new Player Avatar....

for which we're delighted to be able to share a first preview of the new Avatars in-game head!

Today we're previewing some technical work that may sound innocuous at first read, but that will actually have a significant impact with regards to resolving some longstanding player feedback about RuneScape's visuals.

The RuneScape Launcher is currently an Intel-based application on Mac, supported through Rosetta 2 compatibility.

As of Mac OS 26.4, you’ll see a warning notification for the Jagex Launcher highlighting support is ending for these kinds of applications. Compatibility is due to end with the release of Mac OS 28 in 2027.

We know this will seem a little disconcerting, so we’re sharing this quick update today on what to expect. We will be developing an Apple Silicon native version of the Jagex Launcher, which will launch before the rollout of macOS 28.

We’re fully committed to ensuring there’s no disruption for any of our Mac players because of the changes to compatibility. We’ll let you know the launch date for the Mac native version of the Jagex Launcher later this year!
