The MAGA representative is continuing her break with the Republican Party—and the president himself.

MAGA Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is still one of the few GOP members to rebuke Trump and his lies in any meaningful way.

Taylor Greene spoke freely in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Thursday night. “The president says there’s virtually no inflation, and that grocery prices are going down,” Collins asked the Georgia representative. “Do you agree with him on that?”

“No, I go to the grocery store myself. Grocery prices remain high. Energy prices are high. My electricity bills are higher here in Washington, D.C., at my apartment, and they’re also higher at my house in Rome, Georgia, higher than they were a year ago,” MTG said. “Affordability is a problem, and I’m a mom. My kids are 22, 26, and 28. That’s the generation I worry about the most, and they’re having a very hard time.”

WHAT IN THE FUCK IS EVEN HAPPENING ANYMORE??????

[–] QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip 101 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Trump squashed her dream of being a senator so the gloves are coming off.

Yes, another theory is they can swindle the votes to her and not JD if she pretends to develop a conscience. Then she will pardon Trump.

[–] zewm@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard.

[–] Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com 15 points 2 weeks ago

Which would be very on brand for her

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

So republican logic?

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I heard on a podcast (Pod Save America) this morning that she's apparently talked to confidants about running for President next election. She's trying to wash her reputation by suddenly sounding a tad more reasonable.

It's a trick, get an axe

She might be bonkers but she’s shrewd and seen the way the winds blowing. She’s going to do a Liz Truss and position herself as the ‘sensible’ option for change in the MAGA movement, when Trump either pops his clogs or the Epstein Files drop.

At this point I figure Sam Beckett leaping in to MTG is most reasonable answer.

[–] aarch0x40@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I don't even know what to do in a world where MTG is making sense.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago

Just bc she’s honest about problems we are facing doesn’t mean she has good answers.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Three-toed salute, or something.

[–] LostWanderer@fedia.io 65 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

It's weird that this Queen of Lying and Denying Reality is somehow becoming a voice of truth...She must be worried about midterms. ROFL

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 58 points 2 weeks ago

He's not just hurting the right people. If she and her family were unaffected. She would be giddily cheering him to war with Venezuela and blue cities. She is and will always be a shit person. She's just not used to consequences.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 36 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She’s only telling the truth because it serves her personally.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 25 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Nah, that's not it. None of Trump's disastrous economic shenanigans impact her because she's loaded.

She's telling the truth because she know the Republican party is a lost cause at this point, and she's getting in early on the ship-jumping action.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So… it serves her personally by not going down with the ship? I fail to see how this is different than what I said.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 14 points 2 weeks ago

Hmm yes, somehow I read your post as serving her financially. But yeah you're right, whatever she does is clearly self-serving. It's just surprising to see that she's intelligent enough to plan far more ahead than I would have thought her capable of.

[–] CityPop@lemmy.today 10 points 2 weeks ago

She’s saying it for revenge because Trump didn’t give her what she felt entitled too.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yep, her dad built a successful construction company and then she and her then-husband took it over as majority owners. Her husband ran the company while she collected paychecks but never showed up, then she left to go teach CrossFit. She's basically a trust fund kid.

I'm guessing as a career opportunist, she has built her strategy about being "an outsider looking to improve things" as a populist or someone that is critical without actually providing any solutions. When the GOP are not in power, this strategy works. However, now that the GOP control all 3 branches of government, the only way to use the "outsider" strategy is to attack the GOP itself. I don't think for a second that, were she to gain a leadership position, she would provide rational and realistic solutions.

So we can enjoy watching them fight themselves, but I don't think it will lead to any meaningful change or improvement in the life of Americans.

This ghoul is not on your side. Don’t fall for it. The enemy of your enemy can STILL be an enemy.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You are correct. But she can be a useful idiot.

[–] Wiz@midwest.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Always an idiot, rarely useful.

I'm going to be very upset if MTG ends up as the first US president who is a woman

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

My first thought after this was in fact 'Oh shit, MTG really is going to run for president isn't she'.

Still fucks with my head when she says things that make sense. Are we sure she didn't have a stroke or something?

[–] troybot@midwest.social 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are we sure she didn't have a stroke or something?

Like a reverse Fetterman?

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Nature restoring balance and all that.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

The first woman president will be a Republican, and she will be horrifying.

I have to say, this crazy broad is cleverer than I thought: she's clearly positioning herself to have a future after Trump and his henchmen are gone.

[–] Leonyx@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

So that she can replace his swamp with her swamp. Because that's how the GOP operates. They will drain the swamp all right, but will replace it with the new swamp.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Marge, please, stop it. I may actually start to respect you and that's making me feel like hurting myself.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Is she not in on the bribery grift?

Did she not get what was going on all along? Or did they cut her out?

Or they are about to invite her in.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Look at her. She's not his type.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

She's trying to position herself as successor to trump now people are going to be slapped by the reality of his presidency.

[–] Red1@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm guessing MTG has seen the contents of Epstein's safe

[–] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

She wants a senate seat and was told no so now she’s doing this shit out of spite, not because she had any epiphany. She’s still just a selfish cunt

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

How long till ICE shows up at her door, warrantless, masked, and carries her kicking and screaming aways? Any guesses?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

That would be demented enough for him to do that there’s a non-zero chance. But then you could say that about anything. Because of the dementia.

[–] Leonyx@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

About as long as they take to deal with Melania which is never.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The maga is destroying itself

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait until Trump dies. Then the real fun begins.

I stopped watching wrestling after I felt like the storylines became too obvious. Why am I now interested in this clown show with horrible heel turns?
