The whole point is, being a pedant about it makes zero difference whatsoever to the people who sleep in the streets, and your dithering is beyond pointless.

Do you honestly think the person sleeping outside gives a fuck how people describe it? The only thing they actually care about is the next thing to eat and a place safe from the weather.

Please read all my comments in this thread and provide me examples of my inconsistency.
System is broken and needs fixing. This guy is trying to fix it. I agree this is a small step, but also believe its a step in the right direction and an example of a politician putting his money where his mouth is, all too rare these days.
I'm not "blue no matter who," I'm saying look at the active track record of the political figure in question and then with receipts tell me how this is something actually worth criticizing like a New York Post writer. "His policies are not exactly what I want verbatim so I'm gonna throw a Libertarian-style hissy fit because I'm more right than you!"
Man is making moves people in one of the biggest cities on the planet actively approve of in ways that ease the financial burdens of working people. If I have to go searching through three screens to tip somebody through an online app then in all reality I probably won't 9 out of 10 times. Which means more of my money goes to corporations where I never see it again versus into the actual economy where the actual value of that dollar continues to accrue as it circulates amongst the masses.
Let me reiterate from my top comment here: Perfect cannot be the enemy of good when the system is so wildly stacked against us. Every bit of progress in the right direction is a fight for an inch we no longer have to worry about later. That is how movements build momentum.
Nuance exists. Trump did ensure Project Warp Speed was enacted for COVID vaccines. I lauded him for at least doing the bare fucking minimum expected of an actual leader for once.
Look at every other policy Mamdani has managed to put in place already and then tell me why we should be mad at the guy over fixing another large issue in as sweeping a manner as he is reasonably able. You know, especially considering the federal administration would love for him to do anything "radical" so they can disappear him.
Sure, let's dump on the only guy demonstrably working to improve the lives of his constituents in whatever way he can in a system designed to concentrate wealth and power away from the people.
Perfect cannot be the enemy of good when the rest of the political landscape is clearly significantly worse.
Also, while COL in NYC is definitely not low, the pay at least allows one to actually survive because of the already-somewhat-progressive nature of NYC politics. Compare that to Florida where the pay for licensed and experienced Nurses for example is literally half that offered in New York and there are zero unions and/or worker protections besides, then maybe we can agree that forcing the predatory companies to at least be slightly less shady and let people show monetary appreciation for a job well done when clearly nobody else will is absolutely a lesser evil on the road to becoming something worthwhile one day.
For super-lefty Lemmy, shitting on the most openly and demonstrably active socialist politician in the country is kinda funny.
He was the punkest motherfucker I ever did see
Aw, hell, he's even more punk than me!
Edit: kerning
Read further before responding next time and don't "you people" me when you've got no idea what bucket I fit in.
Oh I agree. I jumped off Windows the day I got my laptop and saw what a horror show windows 11 is and am outright refusing to update my android until I can unlock my bootloader and entirely degoogle.
I also don't use any of the big LLMs because I see no point and don't have a job that requires I do so. I personally believe AI is a net-negative for humanity in general.
One could also argue the very same for alcohol, gunpowder, firearms, etc. The only recourse left is to argue ethical use, not cry about not wanting it in the world anymore.
Besides, what does using AI to debug the kernel and optimize it for people who have reason to run local LLMs have to do with you and me? I'm all for sticking it to The Man when he does some Seriously Dumb Shit, but this whole situation qualifies for neither.
Arguing over use of a tool is foolish.
Arguing over correct use of a tool absolutely has merit.
AI as an industry has extremely debatable morality, however you kinda can't put this genie back in the bottle.
Like him or don't, his ultimate message of "This shit is here so you may as well learn how to embrace it" isn't inherently bad either in context of bug-hunting and skilled individuals using the tools as an aid rather than as the alpha and omega solution.
How is this controversial besides coming from the guy who said it?
The Post is only fulfilling its original purpose since it was founded by Alexander Hamilton; it is a political mouthpiece for the moneyed interests in New York City.
One of their earliest political hit pieces absolutely decimated John Adams' already tenuous political career in the public eye and ultimately paved the way for Jeffersonian politics to calcify around the heart of our nation's politics.
Right, which is why one in fifty cops gets to keep a gun. To hunt down the psycho who thinks that's a good idea and come home afterwards for doing what his job actually is as per the social contract.
I can hate cops as they are today but still want for the actual safety of the public through the proven institution of "policing." No, not the glorified slave-catchers American cops are, but real police.
I absolutely agree, though the reasonable side of me just wants to note that while Conservatism is evil as an ideology, being conservative (little c) isn't inherently bad and, in fact, is required in order to be properly progressive; you cannot build a proper future without a solid foundation. Conserve what works, discard what weighs you down, build newer and better, rinse repeat. See: boiling water for power meme.
Modern right-wing movements are a global net negative on society, but I just hesitate to fully endorse blanket statements like yours because while the overall movements and ideologies tend to be oppressive and bad for society, there are still sensible elements and issues raised that are worth considering.
That said, if the Republican party got Thanos Snapped tomorrow my antisocial autistic ass would throw the biggest party in the world with open invitations. I'll make pizza, you just bring the dough.
