That or they overcorrect.

On a pretty popular leftist Lemmy instance (Hexbear), you need to provide a trigger warning for "an ableist slur" if you're posting a screenshot or quoting something that says the word "stupid". Pretty sure you're not allowed to say it in any other context (even for example calling the EU Kids Act "stupid") or you'll get banned for "ableism".

I'm not. I'm just saying that a lot of "invisibly" disabled people with (often undiagnosed) learning disabilities etc. are called stupid all the time, and reading something like that would really hurt them.

This is an anecdote, I understand that I'm "arguing" here from the heart and I'm not looking to win any legitimate debate, which would be impossible since I unexpectedly got dogpiled this hard while I was asleep before I had a chance to say this, but anyway:

I watched this small streamer for some time, and even became her moderator. She would just not understand a lot of things, at all, and she was completely unaware how some things could offend other people, until I explained them to her and she felt really bad for saying them while not knowing the real meaning. She cultivated this audience of reactionary people, because they thought she was one of them because she accidentally said a whole bunch of edgy things. But let me emphasize this: she never wanted to hurt anyone, she always felt bad for saying hurtful things on accident and always deeply apologized when she realized she was being hurtful.

Eventually, I had to quit, because the audience was too much for me. She was a great person, but I didn't feel welcome due to her viewers and eventually stopped watching her. She felt really bad that I didn't feel welcome, but there was really nothing that could be done without me banning like a third of her community. We stayed as friends for some time, and she opened up how sad she was about people calling her stupid all the time "because she wouldn't understand some things" (in reality she had issues understanding basic things all the time).

When I saw that comment, I thought of her, already really upset by people calling her stupid, reading that and being like "stupid people are gross? and everyone calls me stupid... does this mean... :(".

I don't understand why you are so against using the accurate and more flexible term "plant-based" instead of "vegan".

Why do you insist on bastardizing veganism? I don't get it. Like I told you earlier, labels matter and this just breeds confusion on what's vegan and what's not. People already are confused about veganism because of nonsense like this. Just call it "mostly plant based" and call it a day.

    Hey,

I'd like to view content in Finnish and English (and undetermined), but it automatically deselects the previous language when I try to select multiple languages in the settings.

Also, I'd like to add pronouns to my display name, like so: "Dreamcatcher [they/them]", but it won't save the display name.

    How can I fix this?

    Thank you.

    Hello everyone.

I tried to access ddocs.new to access my to-add words list to a flash card app that I'm using to learn a language. First, it told me I'm offline, which I found strange, when I switched browsers I got greeted with this page, screenshot of which is above.

I switched to DNS4EU because I had issues with the Proton VPN default DNS, as it seemed like the easiest pick as I wanted a DNS from Europe. I switched to Quad9, and the website is accessible properly now.

Should I be concerned? Is this a malicious website as they say, does anyone know why they're blocked? I'm not using it for anything important.

I'm not calling this a review since I have no experience in writing those, and this is all over the place.

So, I just finished Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced, and it was the first game for the GBA that I've beat so far. I'm new to this stuff, experimenting with Gameboy things on my Anbernic RG SP.

The game was great! I was surprised that Vicarious Visions was able to nail Naughty Dog's Crash feel from the fantastic PS1 trilogy, 2 of which were some of my first ever console games. At least to me, it feels very similar to the PS1 trilogy but in 2D.

There's various different types of gameplay, surfing levels, standard 2D platforming, space levels, and every boss has a different way of how you have to beat it.

I have to admit that I did some save state abuse, but only in one level! It was the last level with ropes and I got relatively easily to what is pretty much the end to grab the gem but I couldn't figure out how to grab one of the ropes. I ragequit the game, and probably 2 days later it randomly popped into my mind I probably needed to bounce off some boxes.

2 weeks later, I decided to swallow my pride and use save states for the first time because I wanted to beat the game, and I was right about the boxes. This means that if I had the motivation to do a bit more "legit" grinding, I could've easily passed the level without save state abuse. I don't consider it cheating in this case, but who cares about cheating in a single player game to be honest.

I did all the rest of the levels without using save states and had a very pleasant time, especially with the final boss, it was very fun :) I was surprised to find out the game ended there, I thought there was one more stage.

TLDR: Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced is a great game, give it a try if you haven't already, especially if you like platformers. It's very much like the PS1 Crash games but in 2D, at least in my honest opinion.
