Yeah basically the 'light os' is just a launcher not a full operating system. It's running android 14 under the hood and if you know the work around you can get to the base layer and build up from there.

It's really a nifty device. I quite enjoy what it has to offer. The problem I have with it was that the company shipped it before the software could utilize all the features. It's got a fingerprint reader and front facing camera that aren't utilized out the box (selfies work but video calls, no). I liked it enough to tinker with it and make it 'smart'. The form factor and other constraints make it so it's much less intrusive than my other smart phones. Which has helped me stay focused. I won't lie there are still times that I find myself scrolling reddit on it but it's janky enough where it's not as bad as it could be. It has definitely highlighted how addictive these apps and sites are.

Still ironing out some details on my own but I look forward to what they do with their software updates in the future!

Can't use apps that require google play services.

Trying fennec now. Seems much better than last time I had it installed.

I'm running a modified Light phone 3. It's a bit of a janky setup but it's definitely been an interesting tinkering project

Does anyone have a FOSS BROWSER recommendation?

Seriously, saying what they have is shit and providing no alternatives is counterproductive. I still use chromium on my device because firefox runs like buns. Y'all are saying Brave is not better, but again, do you have alternatives?

Thanks

Why's that? I used it for torrents a few weeks ago and at least speeds were fine. Definitely slower but not terrible.

Does it leak data or something?

Oh wow, who would have thought cutting all those government services was a fucking terrible idea.

It was so weird how right wing media was praising this dude for his economic policy and trump dick riding. $40billion injection and Argentina is still fucked. Yet these idiots can't see what's clearly evident if you have even a basic understanding of policy and economics.

Idk depends where you're at. In the US some regions you're basically not a participating part of society without one particularly out west. On the East coast there are several cities where having a car becomes more of a liability than anything. Public transit is good enough with some caveats.

Having had a car in the bay area I literally would not have survived without it. I've since moved east and had my car break down a few weeks ago. Honestly not as bad as I thought it would be. Definitely had to cut some things out of my schedule that were on the opposite side of the city and get used to the occasional crackhead/tweaker but I'm honestly saving more money than expected. The convince of a car only really shows up with dating and cutting 10-30 minutes from most of my travel.

All that to say I mostly agree with you.

Yes bro, they were laughing at the mod in the middle of the segment. It's like you could see in their eyes that this was a slam dunk from the first few seconds

I mean just look at this shit

The sub literally died overnight. Crazy to witness in real time. A lot of people had/have legitimate grievances about how work and labor are handled in the US and this was during and immediately after COVID lockdowns. One basement dwelling, stereotypical reddit mod delegitimized an entire movement with a single interview on Fox "news".

No one knew they had been contacted and clearly they had no media training; I'm talking clearly unbathed, wearing dirty clothes, blurry camera/video, and spinning in their chair while talking like a school child. To say it was bad is an understatement.

Support fractured and multiple subreddits were formed to distance themselves from /r/antiwork. It was actually sad to see. There was like a week or two of fighting on reddit about it. Shit like that makes you realize how effective counter-intelligence programs are. All you need is one weak link and a moment of opportunity

Met my friends at a US university. They're from The states of Kerala and Karnataka.

So a bit of bias on my and their parts, with them being individuals who sought out US schooling.

Having visited them Bangalore myself it was a definitely some culture shock; extremely noticable wealth disparity, police taking bribes for petty things in the open and rampant harassment depending on where you're at and what you're doing. I had a few instances as a dude where I didn't feel safe, can't imagine what those situations would be like as a woman.

I will also note that there is a unique reverence and benevolence that is present that doesn't quite exist in the states. Thinking about the chart more I might recognize why people report feeling that their common citizens are generally good.

But again it's complex... I saw a lot of people treating lower caste people very poorly in the few weeks I visited.

Perhaps. I said that mainly because of what my female friends from India have said and how they feel about their home. It's a complex thing, and I'm not from there. I'm just expressing my surprise

This sounds like fucking hell, I can't see a way this works without having to work 7 days a week or being hobo-sexual

Listen I love dogs, but this is some peasant type shit. 2 suit cases being everything you own? Yeah, I'd like to practice nonattachment to this level, but I doubt you're finding nirvana doing this. There's no way this is done outside a major metro.

Edit: ok after having read the article this whole thing is fucking nonsense. Financial coach? This is a fuckin grift. They definitely have a fall back either through family or something. This article reads both as self-fellating and rage bait depending on how you lean or align yourself. it hits so many major buzzwords. Im not sure why it's even a story besides the fact it will definitely be controversial
