"Intellectual stimulation"...yes...yes, I think I like that

This is what I'm afraid of too. I could see apps like fdroid and the ability to install custom roms being taken away within the next year or two. I hope I'm wrong but I don't have a good feeling. I need Linux phones to be a thing now more than ever.

Well, I'm afraid that's where we diverge in beliefs then. With a god it is perfectly reasonable to believe that, but without one it's not.

But who defines them? If there is no god to determine that then that belief is entirely subjective. What one person views as good will be bad to another. How do you determine who is right?

I don't know why you are being downvoted. This is an excellent question. Personally, no, but that's because I feel empathy towards other people and enjoy cooperation/community.

However, imagine if you were born without empathy or even enjoyed hurting others. Does that make you a bad person? Our society would certainly see it that way. You would be ostracized/incarcerated for not being the same as others because you enjoy hurting people. But does that make your existence wrong? I don't think so. To be honest I don't think there is such a thing as wrong and right, just selfish and selfless behaviors.

All this to say, I would say no and certainly don't condone it, but if you ask someone else they may say yes. Who is to say that either one of us is right?

This life has no meaning. Absolutely none. Do what you enjoy. You don't need a "purpose," grind culture is toxic and will only lead to burnout. Slow down and listen to the birds sing.

Just wanted to say thanks for making me aware of pangolin. I got it up and running! This is so awesome, I can't believe it exists.

Damn. Thanks for this I'll look into it.

I've been using Arch (btw) for a few months now and have been really enjoying it. I am scared that something is going to break though. I have Timeshift and BorgBase backups but I would rather not deal with that tbh. I haven't tried Debian yet but I think I might make it my next distro. However, it's going to be really hard to give up the AUR and Arch wiki.

I just finished setting up my own Jellyfin server. Lately I've been getting into using open source software and this weekend I thought it would be nice to self host on an old thinkpad I had from my college days. There were a few roadblocks I encountered, but ultimately I got it working. Now with the Finamp/Jellyfin app I can have a Spotify/Netflix-like experience completely free (well minus the domain name cost). I highly recommend it if you have been thinking about doing it for a while like I was. I'm so glad we have open source software like Lemmy and Jellyfin available to us.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who suggested not using Cloudflare tunnels. I'm sure they would have got me eventually. I am now successfully running Jellyfin with Pangolin and couldn't be happier.

There is an app on fdroid called SpamBlocker that I am using. It allows you to add spam call databases like the US's do not call list, for example. You can also do other stuff like block numbers that don't have a specific area code or that come from a specific state, etc.

Lately I've been trying to degoogle/decorp my life in an effort to increase my privacy. So far I'm running GrapheneOS, using open-source software/apps (VPN, email, cloud storage etc), switched to Linux, switched browsers/search engines, and even switched from smart devices to analog ones. The only thing I have left that I can reasonably give up is a google home router. However, new routers are quite expensive for me. Is it worth buying a new one or does it even matter?
