tbf as a kid I sometimes chew on aluminium foil wrapper of candies (back when they wrap some candies in aluminium) to extract the last dregs of candy. so I kind of can empathize lol

I might get a used pixel a series as a burner phone, and as a test for my country's bank apps. I am aware that there are a lot of bank apps that do work on GOS, and sone of that are ones that operate in my country. But not all. If I can scrounge up the money for it, I'll be sure to share my findings somewhere

I jumped to another piefed instance that doesn't have that shit. A shame about the comms held hostage in .social though.
IIRC the implementation also effects how users receive votes for posts and comments, not just the users giving it
IMO the greatest strength of piefed is the built in on-boarding to kick start your subscriptions to not feel so empty (since you don't have any communities subscribed yet or you joined a smaller instance) or too overwhelming (since you joined a big instance and browse All). I signed on piefed.social a year ago and that is what made me stay over the last 2 attempts. A solid foundation to replace the algorithm in reddit. The crosspost support and collecting comments from same posts in different comms is the brick walls and cement for that foundation.
And when the vote quota shit happened, I jumped to .zip because they practically disabled it (IIRC it cannot be turned off, but zip admin just make it impossibly high. It might have changed by now idk (regarding can't be turned off))
and from some mentions I've seen occasionally piefed also has better mod tools. don't quote me on that, can't really vouch.

Don't have to install anything. Some instance make it the default though, but I think most front end like Voyager or Alexandrite (or tesseract since we are discussing it) you can visit their web page and point your home instance to use their UI.

It's a frontend. So literally a skin to make a website look prettier and more organized.
Imagine a waiter starts telling customers what foods they are allowed to eat. He wasn't the chef, the manager, the owner, anybody.
That's how stupid it was.
It kind of is, considering it's still an app of sorts, but using the web browser. I just keep using "front end" because that's what others call it. I see it like an app. but yeah, it's to change the UI if you don't like the default lemmy UI.
