It's my third hedgehog encounter this season. I live in a small city in Western Lithuania. Since it has a lot of green spaces, you can see various animals without venturing out of the city.

Overall, certain animals have had a renaissance in the region after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since a lot of lands have been left alone for 30 years and the amount of pesticides in use has been severely reduced.

That’s good to hear! I live in California and we have coyotes, deer, raccoons, and turkeys running around lol.

After looking it up, I just realized that hedgehogs are non-native to California and are illegal here, which explains why I’ve never seen one in the wild.

That's awesome to hear! I was just lamenting the lack of cute animals here. The garden is buzzing from all sorts of insects, including cute ones like fireflies and ladybugs, bees, etc. but realized that there is no hedgehog here helping me wage war against a serious infestation of slugs.

Plenty of western countries lack hedgehogs in their gardens because of fences, that prevent hedgehogs from travelling around and finding enough food in order to survive.
