Meant in fun btw:-P but also seriously too: like how much shit will you tolerate in your drink or food before you choose to not consume it at all, and why bother entering not only a Nazi bar but the very corner where those who prefer Alternative to True Facts hang out?
The motto of Lemmy: block early, block often, if you value your sanity. I joined PieFed long before it was fully developed because I love how it provides the tools that we as users crave, many of which Lemmy not merely has not gotten around to yet nor even just refuses to implement but actively goes backwards on. e.g. a Lemmy "instance block" does not really block an instance, although early on it did more than it does now, by silencing notifications sent to you by members from it, before changing to now allow those notifications. I almost left the Threadiverse after unknowingly making what I thought was an innocuous comment in Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net (about USA President Biden and gas prices, how should I have known better when I had not seen the sidebar, plus often the sidebar says nothing about what truly goes on in a community?), and then again in lemmygrad.ml, but instead I merely left just Lemmy and get to keep all the wonderful communities that are now being migrated elsewhere away from certain instances that don't agree with actual facts and more importantly, violate the rules by attempting to bully people onto submission rather than engage in rational dialogue. I'm done with that now, yet PieFed saved me from having to leave the Threadiverse entirely to get away from such.:-)
Just a little, I don’t think people act terrible despite the instance in every community.
Mentions from blocked communities can break through into notifications. So it’s easy for the users to goad one.
Yes, you’re right I have seen many incidents on the triad where someone is trying understand the other’s perspective only to be cursed at and name called then they justify it saying they “only care a lot about the issue at hand”.
Thank goodness Piefed, Fedia.io, Lemmy.cafe and Infosec.pub exist.
"Purity beatings will continue until morale improves" - some people choose not to understand that change in people's opinions happens through dialogue of rational thoughts. So even if the goal was to simply spread some belief structure (e.g. that communism was best, or Arch Linux is best, or whatever), those who simply vomit up their emotions onto anyone who does not immediately parrot the talking points is hurting their own cause.
Moreover, for some of us the goal of dialogue is to learn things and arrive at the true answers by listening to people who think about things differently. However, those who choose to speak rather than listen will never arrive at those answers - or even if they happen to already have them (a stopped watch is still correct twice a day?) they will never be able to have true confidence in their answers.
i.e., trolls exist on the internet, whose purpose is to troll rather than engage in rational discourse. This destroys the ability of the rest of us to engage in an enjoyable manner, much as children screaming in a room inhibits any deep discussions about like philosophy, or anything really.
And trolls can only exist when they don't get kicked out. Hence they congregate in those certain places that allow them to thrive, inside those echo chambers. At which point blocking those whole entire spaces can greatly improve the sanity of anyone not looking to engage with trolls:-).
I'm pretty sure it's called 'the troika'
The gas price comment you made was just silly and you got pushback on it, the horror.
The only time you got one of your posts removed it was because it was nonsense blaming Putin for Israels US-backed genocide campaign in an unrelated thread.
