does this gothic rock stuff count as metal? what genre do they see themselves in btw?

Wikipedia consider them to be gothic metal, and I'm inclined to agree

Look em up on the encyclopedia Metallum, they are clearly not rock lol. That said, if you ask any older metalhead who was an adult when they were releasing their albums, the common consensus seems to be that Peter definitely tailored October Rust for all the chicks he was picking up, plus the playboy shoot.
