I get yelled at by my wife and my therapist all the time for saying "I wish I was dumb, because then I'd be happy."
The term is ‘ignorance is bliss’ is quite fitting. Ignorance is seen as a negative choice rather than a happy option.
Seems like something a therapist should understand?

Well yeah. Say stupid. Dumb means mute and it's rude.
Surely though, in the days when people didn't have an explanation for muteness and "deaf and dumb" was said about people, they thought they really were dumb, rather than just mute? Or is that not the connection? I'm just guessing here.
