The media isn't for being informed, it's for entertainment, that quick shot of rage bait and then off to the new thing to be enraged by. Doubly so when someone rich and powerful is heavily encouraging a change of topic.

Exactly, but also consider the market as the media sees it. A lot of folks are much more comfortable with discussing a reflecting pool or the east wing of the white house simply because the stakes are lower than the economy, war, and child rape.

Family friendly ragebait gets wider audiences. Easy dollar.
