Sweet! I assume but should ask I guess, will PyLova continue to pull in new features as they are added to PieFed - after appropriate and extensive review of course?
Conversely, maybe some new features could go in the opposite direction as well, to enhance both codebases?
Competition could be a great thing, and collaboration even better. While retaining the different spirits of the respective projects of course (some areas will inevitably conflict - like the vote quotas - and that's simply how it's going to be, no getting around that, nor any need to try).
I’m trying to add PieFed stuff as I can, but it’s a bit of a hassle decoupling how conjoined everything gets.
And I have offered code in the past, Rimu has opted to block me on every platform he controls, deny my PR’s, and outright steal my code with the intention of not attributing it to me. So I’m no longer interested in trying to contribute to PieFed.
Yikes, that sounds terribly unfriendly. wjs018 liked the plan, and even if it was a bit rude to simply close with zero explanation, I still would rather presume the best intentions... except then the code theft, which would have cost nothing to simply state in an announcement message where it came from. I am so sorry that happened to you:-(.
And that instance picker is an absolute mess right now, imho. Like shadow-censoring votes (even those from other platforms like Lemmy) without disclosure, and without explicit acknowledgement of such, that sounds to me like the polar opposite of "Newbie-friendly", where Reddit-esque stuff is happening and again, regardless of whether it would have been fine or not if it had been done with complete transparency (related to certain portions of it, I actually think so? internal instance matters are subject to the preferences of the owner so... yeah? you do you boo! but censoring the votes of people from other instances - that seems to cross a line?), it definitely does not come across at all, in any way that I've ever heard, and especially not in the instance picker, which philosophy (of whether it's okay to shadow-censor votes submitted even from other instances) is being implemented on which instance.
Also, wtf does defederation level = "good" mean? Especially when it reportedly is based purely on an underlying numerical value of number of defederations, but explained nowhere. Is defederating from half the Fediverse "Good" or "Bad" or what?⁉️
Then again, I guess I should learn more details about the PyLova fork, bc I thought that most of my rants above were able to be easily turned off by application of environmental variables? So it is currently unclear to me (who has not read enough yet to know) what the value is specifically in a fork of the codebase, rather than judicious usage of those. I think I am not explaining myself well here but like "No daily maximum number of votes" is something that didn't need a fork to accomplish (I... thought? obviously you know far beyond than I!:-P), though many of the other items would have (sanitization, correction if emoji handling).
Hey, on the bright side, if Rimu keeps stealing your code contributions, hopefully with acknowledgement this time 🤣, then all PieFed instances could benefit from these improvements!! Or if the PieFed devs find that annoying, then they could be nicer to their contributors. (inb4 I get banned from all of PieFed: I'm sure there's a lot I am not aware of here, I just find the situation sad is all I am saying 😢). More code is generally better (so long as written by an accomplished human)!?
Are any instances using it though? I'm newish to Lemmy, so I don't understand how I would access it.
Quokk.au and Anarchist.Nexus run it currently. There are a few more who have expressed interest and may one day swap over.
It's the same as Lemmy/Mbin/Piefed, different instances run different interoperable Threadiverse software. So to use it, you would need to be a member of an instance running it.

Going from Lemmy to PieFed is a huge mess, and as far as I know quokk.au is the only instance to completely swap over from running Lemmy to PF.
I would say if you're happy with Lemmy to continue using it, v1.0 should be out soon with some pretty cool new features. If you're wanting to try out the PieFed/PyLova experience, be warned that such a move over would lose everything you have to date and may cause syncing issues with same named users/communities that previously existed.

Not an expert, but I don't believe they're compatible enough on the backend for migration. You basically set a new one up from scratch.
