Never? Guy walks around in black face you don't feel you need to change shame them for their appearance? Personally sporting a Nazi tattoo you don't think an honest upright person's duty is to shame that person? That's a hell of a stance to take.
It's pretty obvious that we are talking about "look" in the sense of someones natural body. Getting a nazi tattoo or putting on blackface is a conscious choice to be racist, being fat isn't.
Certainly not obvious. You said never. Also like to point out that being fat is also a choice. And much like racism and bigotry and intolerance and fascism is a choice, being fat is a symptom the choice to indulge in laziness, sloth and gluttony. Something which you should be shamed for indulging in. Now I'm not in the business of shaming people for that, although unlike you I'm perfectly happy doing it for the former cases. But it is shameful. And the person who is fat should be ashamed of themselves.
Publicly shaming people is more likely to elicit a defensive response rather than something which can help the person make a positive change.
What about people who have, through diet and exercise, lost a massive amount of weight, yet are still overweight?
Like, do you not think they suffer enough? I have a cousin, for instance, who lost an amount of weight comparable to an entire person, and yet he is still very large. I think it's medically impossible for him to be not-fat. Yet he persists with his diet and exercise plan and is much healthier than he had been.
I think it's unfair for people like him to be bullied for their size and weight, and it doesn't do anyone any good. It never does. By bullying people who overeat as a coping mechanism, you simply give them another stressor with which they will need to cope.
I can understand that you believe publicly shaming large people is justified because you believe that it will prompt them to change their behaviours for the better, but I think you're misguided and that your justifications are unreasonable.
I literally said I don't believe in public shaming. I said they should be ashamed of themselves. Your cousin should be ashamed of himself to have reached that point. Proud that he's working on it, but without that shame he would never do that work. Because being fat is shameful.
I can add being poor reading comprehension to your list of faults, including being okay with Nazi tattoos.

Yes, you've said that multiple times in this public thread. Am I not to take that as public shaming? You're literally telling any/all fat people who might read your comments that they should be ashamed. That is public shaming.
No. You have no knowledge or understanding of his life and are in no place to talk about him. That's really rude.
You have no way of knowing if internal or external shame played any role in his lifestyle changes and yet assume that you know.
I disagree. I think it's shameful to publicly shame others for things which you cannot know or understand. You assume, and you assume the worst, like many others. That, I find to be shameful.
