Collapse

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

A typically cynical take by an armchair orthodox economist who cannot imagine that politics might play any role in human affairs. Everything, literally everything, is obviously determined by ironclad rules of economics textbooks. The world is obviously people exclusively by ultra-rational self-interested homo economicus. Governments that commit to social and environmental goals, up to and including international treaties, are obviously lying.

Pure, depressing, boring cynicism. And flagrantly contradicted, at least in part, by the example of China.

As a semi-offtopic tangent, who even is this author and why should we believe anything they say? The modern information landscape of randos posting blog rants by other randos is really bothersome. This is not how culture should move forward. IMO as yet another rando, of course.
