The white population was quite small, they ruled via the "mulatto class" aka biracial pro-french locals, since the intention was never integration or replacing the locals - I wouldnt count it as such.

Ugh, I can already imagine anticommunists crying about this, calling it an ‘ethnic cleansing’. It’s already their perspective on the Allied expulsions of German settlers.
Its different because the expulsions of germans included ethnic groups present before the targeted colonial schemes of Imperial and Nazi Germany. That is not the case with Japanese settlers in Manchuria.
Technically, Japanese people could claim that several centuries ago they traveled from the Chinese mainland to Japan, so they are just taking back their previous homeland. This is the excuse that Israelis use.
Korea used to speak a japonic language until the 7th century, so that would be a better claim.
