A hardcore maga coworker told me that “if” it’s proven that Trump “was” in the Epstein files he will still vote for him because I’m his own words “I would rather vote for a pedophile than an honest democrat.”

[–] galacticbackhoe@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I always point to the Alabama Senate election between Roy Moore and Doug Jones. Roy Moore, known pedophile, vs. normal Democrat. Far too many conservatives went on record saying "better than a Democrat".

They are so anti-pedophile until suddenly they're not. What a disgusting thing to change your opinion on, person to person.

What a disgusting thing to change your opinion on, person to person.

That's the thing, they never changed their opinion, they just lied

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 56 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And they wonder why their kids never visit anymore 🙄

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Sad thing is he has 2 sons and they are also hardcore maga too. His oldest son has a toddler and he’s said he’s gonna raise his the right way in that to be conservative.

Ask him what specific conservative policies he supports. Don't even push back at first, just make him try and articulate what principles he even believes in that aren't in opposition to something. Like ask "if all the liberals vanished in an instant, what do you and your side believe in and want?"

So many of these people are so wrapped up in fighting boogymen they just truly haven't even realized how hollow the cart they've attached their horse to is

Making conservatives defend their own policies is like asking my dog to make dinner.

I have already and he just repeats whatever he last heard on Fox News.

It's dangerous to reason with those who are not liberated - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

He only had two kids? Must hate America. I jest...

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yea the thing that really pisses me off about him is like most boomer or boomer adjacent people is he is extremely privileged. His dad was a founding member of Boeing after WW2 and his dad had a hand in establishing Lockheed Martin. When his dad passed he got a huge inheritance like millions and he still complains about lazy millennials and Gen Z not buying or able to afford homes and groceries.

They're so proud to lick boots

Do these people mean it as democracy per se or just the democratic party? Just trying to understand your country's stage of fascism.

[–] Kage520@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No they pearl clutch and love America and the democracy it has. But they have been taught that Democrats/Liberals are horrible, disgusting people. It's a knee jerk reaction at this point. My brother, who is hardcore maga, said "no I don't think they are talking about you. You aren't a 'liberal'". Like he was saving me from a terrible slur. And I had to nicely tell him that I am, in fact, liberal.

It kind of feels like the hatred against "the gays" in the 90s. They need someone to hate and right now it's the Democrats and liberals, and I guess everyone else the media has told them to hate (lgbtq, trans, etc).

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (11 children)

They need to understand what you get when you remove 1 party from a 2 party system.

These people aren’t sophisticated enough to know that small-d democrats are a thing

[–] DeprecatedCompatV2@programming.dev 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ackchyually it's not a democracy, it's a constitutional republic, and those are words I read off a screen. They mean that my political team is better than yours and that owning land should give my political team more voting rights than yours.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

either that or its a low information i know one in my family, they either become defensive say "i dont care" or i dont know his policies, but still support him.

[–] aizawaA02@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

What!? Absolutely vile and disgusting. “I rather vote for a p*** than an honest democrat.” Are we in hell? Are we in hell? I am gonna assume most magas are p****. Every single one of them.

I mean Democrats disgust me too, but not more than child rapists...

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 29 points 3 days ago (2 children)

My visceral issue with that comic series is that either: 1) the faces are weirdly deformed, with their mouths where their noses should be, or 2) they have little Disney button noses, and no actual mouths.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 47 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Those dots you think are eyes? Nostrils...
