What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.

I think there's some debate over whether Escape From New York is cyberpunk or just post-apocalyptic but I think it's close enough that I wanted to share this news.

Definitely shouldn't be remade, but if Kurt Russell wants to make a 3rd movie I be down for that.

Escape from Earth.

How much more topical for today can you get?

I loved watching Escape from NY in the late 00s , and laughing our assess off at the "Distant future of 1997".

Also, for film afficionados, Carpenter also dabbled in remakes, and we are cool with the 80s thing.

B. Kliban should do the remake. He already did this:

The biggest problem with a remake like this is filling the shoes of the lead. Really all of Kurt's movies should just be off limits. Nobody is going to pull off the role of Snake Plissken.

That, and why remake a perfect film? Retry one that fell flat before.

Zack Snyder shouldn’t be let near a film set…

And I’m completely sick of reboots and remakes.
