News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I got shadow banned weeks ago mistakenly, it happened after I made 4 posts about a humidity issues on 4 different subs. I think that triggered an algorithm to think I am a bot or something.

So the only sub I could use is r/Shadowban so I thought let me help others and let them know about their account situation.

My last comment was suggesting summit/lemmy while waiting and then I got message from r/shadowban that I am permanently banned. F... not sure if I can curse.

Anyway, I think Summit is amazing after some settings it looks like reddit and even better

Reddit is western Mafia controlled and censored. Just stop using it.

I used to get great answers there, now I ask a question about a problem with Windows, for example, and I get bombarded with comments telling me Windows is da best, and I am doing it wrong.

for me is the same basically between lemmy and reddit even if i do miss some communities.

You can fucking curse, people on TikTok and Facebook, Xitter, Reddit can curse.. The idea that profanity (etym. Latin, "Outside the Temple") is unsociable or wrong is inherently, in the Western hemisphere, a Victorian English invention from the middle-class, as an attempt to distance themselves from the working class. History lesson aside, the only reason cursing aka emotionally descriptive terminology is avoided, as with critical terms such as "sexual assault", "rape", "paedophile", "Covid" apparently, is because many media platforms have automated algorithmic shadowbanning scanning systems to suppress the free speech of content creators. What we do here, and on all the networking sites - discuss things - is not content. We Are Free Here. The only time these penalties come into play is when someone gets paid by a corporate-owned platform to create, and doesn't want to jeopardise the money they receive in return in order to live a bit more comfortably. Put simply:

  • Do you get paid a sizeable, but not comfortable, amount of money by any social platform to create media content, and in turn, traffic for them?
  • Does your life or lifestyle depend on the amount of views you get on a centralised, corporate, regularly audited social media platform for a reason other than financial?

If the answer to either of these questions is "No" then you can cunting swear, on any platform, not just the libre (etym. Latin, "free" and "freedom" and "unrestricted", see also 'liberal' and 'liberation') ones. Because Lemmy is open-source, non-profit, and ad-free, there are no corporate sponsors to appease.

Fuck censors. And like I mentioned above, victims of rape or other forms of traumatic abuse are being taught that they can't openly talk about it, despite zero laws against it, and this severely damages the already dire issue that is victims that do talk get blamed, harassed and demonized, while convictions are very, very low. Talk about that with the fucking states that impose speech monitoring for child safety. If they wanted that they'd enact some actual fucking consequences for child rapists and sex traffickers.

I'm emotionally charged by this topic and vehemently defend a person's right to be free of oppression. You can tell because I'm allowed to express it.

If you're not sure, see the individual instance or community guidelines. For reference, neither mastodon.world, lemmy.world (both owned by the same foundation) nor c/reddit@lemmy.world have rules against certain forms of speech.

That was fascinating! People are normal here like how reddit used to be... anyway in that case, I really need to vent

I just discovered this YouTuber, Stephanie Sterling, and this video, thoroughly commentating a similar opinion -- YouTube: The Online Predator's Best Friend

I'm here like Caroline in Portal 2, "Yes, Yes!! They're saying what we're all thinking!"

That’s bleak. How old was your account? I used my account after the API closed maybe five times, I sometimes wonder if it would be worth mentioning Lemmy there.

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I don't remember, but OOOOOLD, just like me.

I was on reddit before it was cool

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You are on Lemmy before it is cool

Oh man, that must've hurt

[–] Untamed_Star@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Probs for the better lolz. I am checking out piefed at the moment but lemmy is really cool. idk what the difference is but still.

[–] mountainRadish@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (2 children)

I am on summit which can access Lemmy, and Piefed... per what Google Ai told me.

How do you access piefed?

Edit: I am slow... literally.

Edit2: I am saying that I am slow because people always get angry when J don't comprehend stuff.

[–] Untamed_Star@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 hours ago

Also don't worry. I am sure you're very smart. :]

[–] Untamed_Star@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 hours ago

well that doesn't sound very literally slow. Anyways you just login into a piefed instance instead of lemmy, they are federated toguether anyways so you should still get the same posts I think

The difference is the platform, they both connect to the fediverse. Right now piefed has a fair amount of features that Lemmy doesn't but the Lemmy Devs are hard at work so we'll see what the updates bring.

You can think of each instance kind of like an email. Gmail, Yahoo whatever, they can all connect to each other but they're all their own thing.

Reddit when a user has an interest or area of expertise🤭

How do they expect people to be using their site?? Is it just run by people who don't understand what a forum is, anymore? That means that they don't even believe in the vision of what reddit is; they must look at the code at work and go "man... it's going to take a long time 'till we make an Instagram out of this ugly duckling!"
