Wait... Are we going back to call it the Gulf of Mexico?

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

[–] AquaTofana@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

¡Cabrones!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 hours ago

The US education system has been hollowed out for decades now with the single goal of being able to put fascists into power. Only with a dumb population can you pull off such horrendous shit and still get away with a dumb excuse

The good thing about this is that there is so much incompetence going around that these fuckers will eventually break their new system by themselves.

To make a trump like expression that is actually true; The US economy is already a bubble the size like nobody has seen before. I for one can't wait for that economy to pop, maybe then Americans can be bothered to do something about trump

It's hard for racists to differentiate people with brown skin. They just all come from Brownskinistan.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago

I LOLed at "Soccer Mexico"

It's funny how Brazil is just ingrained in my subconsciousness as "The Soccer Country" along with like Spain I think

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 12 hours ago

It's like those people who call all sodas "Coke."

[–] carpelbridgesyndrome@sh.itjust.works 23 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The best part of this was how none of the "three Mexican countries" were Mexico.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Sad Agustín de Iturbide noises

[–] thorhop@sopuli.xyz 16 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I laughed when I saw "Soccer Mexico".

It's called football. Let's do the math.

Foot + ball = football

Rugby + kicking = footrugby.

Don't @ me.

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Soccer is a British shortening of 'association football.' Aka association rules football.

In the 1860-90s, one of several competing games / variants of the same gsme all called football including rugby, then called rugby football (rugby being the name of the town/ school that game was popularized in)

American and canadian football are variants off of this version of 'rugby football,' Eventually dropping the name rugby (as they no longer had much association to that locale) british rugby, and its other variants, eventually dropped the football from their name.

Technically though, for the game we generally think of as football, association rules football, (which again, soccer is just a shortening of) is the proper name. For instance, If you look up fifa, their name is Fédération Internationale de Football Association literally the international association football federation.

And there are still other similar games that use football in the term, including american/ gridiron, Australian rules/ footy, and Gaelic football

Just calling it football is technically using a term for all of those sports. Association football, or 'soccer' is the actual sport and rules we all mean.

Rugby + kicking = Australian rules football

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Referring to the Mexican states?

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

My head was having trouble not correcting it to 'mexican counties'

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 16 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Last time I checked Argentina was wold cup champion and Brazil got humiliated by Germany 7:1. So it's Soccer Mexico and Samba Mexico.

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 9 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Oh come on, give them a break. Brazil still has the most world cup wins under their belt, Argentina doesn't even make the top 3

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 11 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Germany didn't give them a break at 6:0 and neither will I.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 6 points 13 hours ago

Germany definetly slowed down after the 5:0, the rest was training

[–] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 4 points 15 hours ago

Poor brazil. They have gone up against germany since then, and definitely cleared away the poor results from that one match.

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 95 points 1 day ago (2 children)

for anyone wondering if this actually happened, it did. (in 2019)

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Back when Drinky Pete was just an alcoholic fascist stooge and not Secretary of 🙄 “War” . . and also an alcoholic fascist stooge.

[–] West_of_West@piefed.social 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was just thinking posters should include the dates for the Trump posts.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

And given the age of absurdity and stupidity we live in, they should also include a "certified not fake and not satire".

[–] Hazor@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

It really is frustrating how hard it can be sometimes to tell the difference. Nothing sounds too ridiculous anymore.

[–] becausechemistry@piefed.social 58 points 1 day ago (4 children)

“Archipelago” is kind of a big word for their typical viewer, huh?

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

I know Arch-ipelago, BTW.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Arch-i-pelago.

Isn’t that the doorway into Mar-a-lago?

[–] RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, the area you get pegged by an Archie lookalike.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 4 points 13 hours ago

Literally where can I sign up

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 day ago

Get them to pronounce it.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is still far too generous - it assumes that they:

  • Know where the Falklands are (and they they are British)
  • Know where Brazil is
  • Know where actual Mexico is
  • Can spell "archipelago"
  • Wouldn't call Chile "helicopter Mexico"
[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Malvinas son de Argentina!

[–] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Just because Argentina landed there 500 years ago doesn't mean it's theirs

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Lol. Exactly.

[–] CombatWombatEsq@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meat Mexico’s gonna be pissed when they find out their arch-rivals got Soccer Mexico

[–] lillardfair@lemmy.world 15 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Soccer Mexico's endless meat buffets would also like a word

[–] CombatWombatEsq@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

I love a rodizio

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Wait until they hear about the mexistans.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I’d go with Tex-Mexico myself

Can anyone pick out what Ecuador is in this map? The compression is keeping me from deciphering it. The rest are pretty funny.

[–] IggyTheSmidge@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 1 points 12 hours ago

In this slightly higher-res copy, it does appear to be "MS13". (Which makes about as much sense as labeling Uruguay "west"...)

[–] human@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I would go with “Turtle Mexico” cause of the Galapagos. I know they’re not turtles, but I think that adds to the effect.

[–] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago
