Well yah. If there's anything I'd avoid doing in Zelenskyy's place right now, it's openly antagonise the US.

Tell that to the Iranians being bombed. It's okay that we're supporting your country being bombed, it's politically inconvenient to care about your lives.

Could have shut his mouth but he got on his knees.

Vis a vis Zelenskyy and Ukraine’s stance here: do you seriously expect them to ignore the fact that Iran was a key enabler of the tens of thousands of Shahed terror drones, and the subsequent Russian clones? Do you genuinely think there’s even the faintest sliver of governmental or public sympathy in Ukraine for Iran - a country that has been providing significant material support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine - from pretty much the outset of the active phase of the war started in 2022?

Be serious. This is far less “bending the knee” and far more “fuck those guys, because they were punching us in the dick”.

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

So they get to say screw the Iranian civilians, including elderly and children? Fuck that.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They get to say "we have our own naked survival to care about".

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Then they shouldn't have said anything and focused on that.

Ukraine desperately wants the United States to continue supporting them, and currently, the US is run by a group that has been mixed in their support. Trump in particular has been rather unsupportive of Ukraine. Trump is also a figure that is very easily swayed by flattery, so if Zelensky can show himself as among the few that is saying good things about the US's actions in Iran, that may help them secure more solid continuing support in their struggles against Russia.

So it's not just that they have little cause for sympathy with Iran, but also that they have good reason to speak out in favor of the US.

Once you lick the boot, you have to keep licking.

You don't get it. It's lick and die anyway.

It is today expected of heads of state to have a public opinion on big international events. Not to mention that at least suggesting support for the US is advantageous to his cause. Which, again, is what he's allowed to prioritise.

He's between the devil and deep blue sea and showing his desperation. Extremely unwise.

Did the Iranian civilians care about Ukrainian civilians?

[–] RiverRock@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

So wait, do Iranians live under a repressive regime with no say in their country's actions, or are they actually responsible for their country's action to the extent that aggression against them can be justified?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's crazy how Liberals scream the term Tankie all day but then support the exact hypocrisy they accuse Tankies of.

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

It's always projection lol

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 0 points 3 weeks ago

I can absolutely understand that he'd think about his own people first.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it any surprise, tho? Russia and Iran are "allies"

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well that means hypocrisy is fine.

[–] axh@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

What number of drones, blowing up your country, are you expected to ignore in order to avoid being hypocritical?

Edit: just in case my comment is not obvious, I am referring to Shahed drones, that are being used by russians against Ukraine and are produced in Iran. In my opinion, Ukraine has every right to be happy about someone cutting off russian supply of those drones.

[–] okrakai@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago

the russians are building those since like 3 years now, they are not really shahed drones anymore

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

Using this logic anything can be justified because it's convenient for realpolitik.

[–] lithiumground@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

It doesnt give USA+Israel right to attack Iran . it is problem of Iranian. If you support action of USA+Israel, it means Russia has right to invade Ukraine and defend their people + pro-russian ukrainians

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

The puppet is not going to take the handles lol

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Genocidal terrorist Nazi regime supports another genocidal terrorist Nazi regime. No surprise here. This illegitimate clown has long since admitted he dreams of Ukraine becoming a "big Israel".

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca -1 points 3 weeks ago

Iran supported the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine. So I guess this makes them even?
