Totally agree, any stability in a seemingly hopeless situation is a great thing.
I think thats always the hope that they are first steps of stability to move up. None of the projects like this I've seen have been intended to be life time residence.
Depends on you're usecase. I find it handles some of my massive csvs a lot better than excel.

As far as I am aware the accounts for other servers were never centralised it was just part of the federation. If you search for a user the lookup queries your server then matrix or other servers it knows of. Unless thats just user search and not identity initially.
I think this is how its going to fo. People will make more smaller models to break u the work and not need as many raw GPUs.
