Why should arch be any different - how many distros are there based on Debian (or Ubuntu, which is based on Debian)?

I run Manjaro on a 2010ish Dell XPS 15 without a single issue. Haven't used it in a while, because I got a 2012 MBP that was lighter to carry and put Kubuntu on that, but last time I used the XPS it was fine.

This is less an issue of proprietary hardware and more user competence IMO

A repository is where something is stored, and if it is usable it is a library.

  • A repository of books that can be read is a book library.
  • A repository of code that can be imported is a code library.
  • A repository of music that can be played is a music library.
