This bug is driving me crazy. Watching videos in fullscreen does not inhibit the screensaver/sleep settings on Linux. Whenever I try to stream a movie in fullscreen, my screensaver kicks in at the appointed time, as if I'm just idle.

This bug has been around forever. This seems to be the active entry on Bugzilla.

I LOVE Firefox, and it's a great browser for using on my Linux HTPC. For my purposes, it's much better than Brave. But you know which browser doesn't have this problem on Linux? I'm sorry to say... it's Brave.

I've tried different versions of Firefox: Flatpak, ESR, Trunk. They all have the same problem. When I open them from nothing, they often work great. I can watch a movie fine. But then I close out the movie, leave Firefox open, and walk away. My computer goes to sleep, as it should. The next time I use my computer-- with Firefox still open from earlier-- and try to watch a movie in fullscreen, I get the screensaver/sleep issue.

I really don't want to leave Firefox but this bug (and its longevity) is making it hard.

I'm getting ready to move off of Google (and Private Internet Access), and Proton is looking like the best option. But I'm nervous. Some of the things I worry about:

• Calendar support: I rely really heavily on Google Calendar. How will I share events with others? And what will I do without Google Tasks?
• VPN App Quality: Seeing some mixed reviews on Proton VPN Android app.
• Proton ethics & politics: Look, I really don't want to open up the holy war here. My big stipulation is: I don't want my money to go to a company that will donate its money or services to fascists. To my knowledge, Proton does not do that. I know they made a post that seemed to praise GOP antitrust efforts. I do not believe that that is the same thing as lending material support for fascists. (And, as someone who is very well read-in on antitrust issues, I'll say that -- for a lot of complicated reasons -- there is some truth to Proton's post, but I wish they had framed it as a critique of the corporate wing of the Democratic party and not praise of the GOP.)
• Anything else I haven't thought to ask.

So, folks who have made the switch: What do you wish you had known? What do you wish you had done to make the move easier?

I've just started using Brave on Linux (distro info at bottom) and I have a question about keyboard shortcuts & how the browser manages active windows, because it seems to be doing something different from my last browser.

I usually use Firefox, and I've set it up so that I can open a new tab with the Mail key on my keyboard. Pressing my Mail key executes this command, opening a new tab.

xdotool getactivewindow key ctrl+t

But now I've switched to Brave browser, and that command no longer works. When I've got Brave open and I press my Mail key, nothing happens.

I've tried alternate commands:

xdotool key ctrl+t

and

xdotool getwindowfocus key ctrl+t

but no result. Does anyone know how to fix? What is Brave doing with its browser tabs/windows?
