I read that phrasing like the headlines that say things like "Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on shakey ground as Israel repeatedly bombs Lebanon"... like yeah that isn't a ceasfire anymore??

There is a real danger that the US-Iran crisis will extend beyond the current confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with the expiration of the Islamabad MoU making containment of this conflict increasingly challenging.

The risk of more regional states being increasingly pulled into this crisis, either directly or indirectly, is real.

Particularly alarming is the military threat that Trump issued against Oman at the time of the Islamabad MoU’s expiration. As a longstanding intermediary between the United States and Iran, Muscat has played an important role in keeping diplomatic channels open.

Even if the US taking military action against the country is an extremely unlikely scenario, Trump’s threats to do so nonetheless risk damaging Washington’s relationship with Muscat at a time in which a strong US-Oman partnership is key to de-escalation.

before anyone says Microsoft/Xbox are idiots and are sabotaging themselves... yes they are but also this strategy is an extremely successful longterm strategy so long as you have enough money to survive the temporary collapse and can buy up large chunks of the industry during the downswing.

Eventually if you keep doing this then you own most of the industry and neither developers nor gamers have any choice but to accept the crap you serve them. Problem solved.

No, that is the healthiest/least draining thing to do, the militant and most effective thing to do is relentlessly shit on corporate social media with your old corpo account while moving the rest of your social identity to the fediverse.

Obnoxiously link to the fediverse, talk about it unprompted, strip mine the relevance of your posts to the algorithm before you leave.

I am not saying everyone has to do this, I am not even necessarily recommending it as a general suggestion but this is clearly the best way to hate on billionaire social media and fight back against it. If you have the energy, don't throw away the value of your social connections to the corpo algorithm without first converting as much as possible of it to awareness of the fediverse and how shitty corpo social media is, if your objective is to fight as hard as possible.

edit corporate social media is toxic as hell, I make this point not as a judgement of people who just log out and never log back in to corporate social media, take care of yourself, this strategy is for if you have the mental headspace to do it.

Edit: I'd like to preemptively clarify I don't have anything against these specific examples, nor am I trying to invalidate the work that went into creating them or any other examples of anti-AI fonts. This post is meant to critique the idea itself. I'm not trying to put-down anyone here!

I think this is a good perspective but...

AI systems are never going to start getting dumber.

...hasn't this already happened many times???

What emerges from these figures is a picture of generational misery. As Mon-Williams puts it: “I really think we need to take a step back, take a good hard look at ourselves as a country, and ask : what on earth have we allowed to happen?”

Austerity is a hell of a drug to wake up from a 40+ year bender on...

Imagine if ANY OTHER COUNTRY had done this?

This is one of the reasons why the narrative is nonsense that renting games is better because you can easily own "too many games" if you keep buying them and then... oh no!!! You own too many digital games!!!

When you buy an indie game you are supporting art whether you get to the game or not, remember that, which isn't to say buy random games but I think this statistic underlines how much it does matter to the smaller game developers to take a leap and buy their indie games. It helps that they usually cost 1/50th the cost of a AAA game lol....

I hate Ben Gvir with a passion and I cannot IMAGINE if I was jewish how much more I would hate and despise the man for dragging judaism through the mud in the pursuit of base murder and violence.

Don't become who Netanyahu wants you to become, the only way bigots who rationalize their obsession with violence and subjugation through their fear of everything different than them can keep power in Israel is if they have people they can point to who despise jews in Israel for genuinely antisemitic reasons. This dynamic comes up again and again the longer you consider this tragedy, every action taken by leaders is done to cultivate an equally bigoted resistance in the existential enemy so as to preserve the status quo politics at home.

It is also a mental error to understand this purely as a product of the people living in Israel, this is directly connected to European and US politics and the consequences of them that have been reverberating in the middle east for generations. Support for Israel in the US often centers on christian power centers, not jewish ones and if you don't step back and appreciate the broader context, than you will hyperfocus on jews in Israel being uniquely evil and desiring of Genocide when in reality the Palestinian Genocide expresses the capacity for the systems we have built to produce, back and sustain Genocide even when it is in plain sight for the entire world to see.

The second largest population center of jews on earth is New York City, which just elected Zohran Mamdani, a muslim as mayor and he is extremely popular. None of this has anything to do with the supposed holy words written on books god has handed down to us as guidance and everything to do with geopolitics, colonialism, xenophobia and empire.

Fuck Israel.

Fuck this, I lived through 9/11 and the stupid fucking Islamophobia that strangled NYC for a decade plus, fuck the NYPD for surveilling innocent muslim New Yorkers just trying to live their lives, fuck Christians who ignore the permission for violence in their own religion to clutch their pearls and fear monger about Islam, fuck dumb bigots who make generalizations about ~2 billion people.

TWO BILLION PEOPLE

How can you possibly deduce ANY meaningful generalization about 2 billion people that isn't just a generalization about humanity more broadly?

Stoking Islamophobia has lethal real world consequences, people will and already have been radicalized into real and pointless violence from seeing these kinds of ideologies proliferating.

I don't even think it will take many jobs permanently, but to your point it never mattered if AI works or can actually replace human beings at work, all that matters is that people believe it will and then that means that companies can fire large amounts of workers and hire them back under permanently "temporary" positions that pay less, have less stability and condescend the humanity of the worker at a basic level by framing their labor as a temporary substitution for a superior LLM/"AI" to eventually step in and replace.

It is the SAME EXACT STORY as how Uber from the beginning framed its human drivers as temporary... even as dreams of self driving cars have faded from any serious discussion in the near term.. the mistreatment, devaluing and dehumanization were successfully codified into the rideshare industry which was always the goal in the first place.

Which isn't to say that plenty of CEOs haven't drank the KoolAid on AI and are totally lost in the sauce, but two things can be true at the same time...

WW3 here we come!

It isn't a bubble we swear!

Well yeah of course the other companies are bullshitting but not us!

We are winning :)

It just makes you sad when you remember Musk wasn't on it.

In the video, Ben Gvir points towards what appears to be an active construction site and says the complex will include “viewing chambers where crime victims will be able to come and watch” Palestinians being hanged.
