MAJOR ORDER

In close collaboration with the Factory Hub on Achernar Secundus—whose civilian workers number in the millions—Xenoentomology Center scientists on Turing are on the verge of a breakthrough:

New Alcubiere Drive shielding technology could lead to a new era of Gloom exploration.

Scientific Details: Experimentation has revealed that Gloom spores coat FTL drive components, fusing to them at high temperatures and causing catastrophic meltdowns. A new synthetic polymer coating, using protein structures derived from Terminid exoskeletons, has shown promise in disrupting Gloom spore surface cohesion. End Scientific Details.

Spore Burst Terminids originating from FORI PRIME have spread outside the Gloom, a first for this strain. While this development is concerning, it also presents an opportunity. Biological samples of Terminids from within the Gloom could be the final boost needed to mass-synthesize effective Gloom shielding polymers.

The Helldivers are ordered to collect 30,000,000 Rare Terminid Samples, particularly those in the Jin Xi sectors. Additionally, they must hold Turing and Achernar Secundus, protecting our brilliant scientists and their vital engineers.

Hi All,

Hope you are doing well and if not, I hope you will be soon.

librekitty has created a Helldivers 2 Room on Matrix.org. As a fan of FOSS, I thought I should pass the message along. It's also listed on the sidebar.

I posted a few days ago, asking what builds everyone was running. Since then I have hit on what might be my favorite build as someone who hates to be pinned down in intense firefights. I'm using the light, fireproof armor, along with the Double Edged Sickle for basically unlimited firing (Technically I catch on fire after about 14 seconds of holding the trigger, but if it isn't dead in 14 seconds I deserve it) For my secondary I'm using the handheld anti-tank pistol. And I carry thermite grenades. I call the Quasar Cannon and the Jump Pack stratagems, plus 2 of whatever the specific mission calls for. I also need the Vitality enhancement perk to survive the low-level damage my gun does to me.

I have leveled up on the Double-Edged Sickle to where I can put the 4x scope on it, and it is basically a zero-drop sniping beast. Put the dot on the face of a Heavy Devastator and squeeze the trigger until it dies, all while being WAY out of range.

Generally I hop across the map with the jump pack, get to high ground over the objective and provide overwatch for the other members of my squad, who are more brawler types in heavy armor. With the Quasar I prioritize gunships, dropships, war-striders and hulks in that order. Everything else I take down with the Sickle. The anti-tank pistol was mostly added for the occasional suicide mission, but it is handy if the bots are clustering up below my sniping nest and I want to thin them out a bit.

The upside of this build is that the Sickle and the Quasar are unlimited ammo, so I can camp up on a good cliff essentially forever.

On missions where we will have to sit for a while, such as geologic survey or extract civilians, I also like the EMP mortar with the actual mortar to freeze groups in place and let me pick them off while the actual mortar shells pummel them.

What are your non-standard builds and play styles?

My friends and I are looking for a new game to play on Xbox and i had a couple wisdoms about helldivers. We are FPS/strategy fans. We loved CoD/Titanfall/gears pve/pvx modes. We need some sense of progression or we lose interest in the game. There are 3 of us.

  1. Would the 3 of us be able to play together and just be us or would we need to add another to play all the game content?
  2. If just two of us play would we leave our friends to far behind progression wise or would we be able to catch him up/ play his missions?
  3. What is the state of the game now? Would you encourage your friends to start now?
  4. What does the progression look like? Is it static missions you need to play through or can you just do one off missions launch and kill sort of thing that are randomly generated?
  5. Is Build diversity a thing? Or are you hampered if your friend decides to play with only pistols?

I've just about come full circle with this game. I started playing with my sons back when it came out and cycled from being an Autocannon/tank character to running solo ops with the jump pack and anti material rifle. Now I'm starting back up and have reverted to using the Autocannon again, but I use the fire-proof, heavy armor so I can bring the Double-Edged Sickle as my primary. I use the sickle to clear out enemies closer to me than would be comfortable with the AC and then switch to the AC to devastate anything farther off. There is a one handed anti-tank pistol you can get in one of the warbonds that I'm using as a secondary, but I'm not committed to that yet. It is hilarious to launch it where the bot drop ships set everyone down.

What are you using and how are you using it these days?

Dev team just taking some time off and pushed a less that optimal update before they went it seems. Hopefully we'll see the benefit when the full team returns from the beach

From HD2 Discord

Attention, Helldivers

We are beginning the distribution of the Ingress-81 cape to recognize those who bravely worked together many long hours to bring Station-81 back online in May.

As always, please allow some time for the item to appear in your game.

Congratulations, Helldiver! Liberty and Freedom have taken the first steps to stomping out enemies of Super Earth. The UK petition and EU initiative have crossed their thresholds, and safety margin. High Command salutes all eligible Helldivers who took part in those movements.

But the war is far more from over. Vile machinations from the forces that would overturn our way of life continue to grind away at Managed Democracy.

Support these movements at a local level until we are victorious against those who would oppress Liberty's shinning light.

I know, I know, I'm posting this on a community dedicated to Helldivers 2, statistically the answer I would get just from the title is "yes".

Circlejerk aside, I can't think of any other live service game that is a fair comparison.
The closest one I can think of is Deep Rock Galactic, which (ATTOW) I've played for 1.2k hours, compared to HD2 (1.001k).
But then, even though I think DRG is a qualitatively equal game AND technically also a live service game, if we're simply judging the live–serviceness(?) of either game, HD2 comes out on top: I bought the game way after the Malevelon Creek plotline, and even though I was late to the party, it still feels like shit keeps happening every month or two, while I haven't played DRG in 2 years and AFAIK it's still... there (mad respect though, rock solid game).

The other three LS games I've ever played for significant time spans are Team Fortress 2 (1270h), Destiny 2 ^(holy^ ^shit^ ^so^ ^many^ ^2s)^ (170h) and Sea Of Thieves (160h (I've got a friend with >3k h? wtf?)).

TF2 is... I mean, it probably holds up, idk I haven't played it in 6 years or more but I'd hardly consider it an ongoing game (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong);
Destiny 2 is, as far as I know, the most relevant AAA comparison with a reasonably strong season–spanning story and MEH, my brother gifted it to me (two seasons, in fact) and they both felt like a chore to keep up with;
Sea Of Thieves is... have you played it? It's jankier than the Spear was 6 months ago.
I never even considered playing Marvel Rivals, a currently popular game, but...

HD2, on the other hand, ~~never misses the mark~~ misses the mark quite often but in a funny or spectacular way.
Maybe it's just me playing every other evening and having warbonds and events not too hard to keep up with, with eventual SC farming every now and then, but off the top of my head I've been through:

  • The appearance of the Jet Brigade (at the time I just thought jetpack commissars were simply regular enemies (maybe they were idk));
  • The gloom;
  • The DSS construction;
  • The DSS perpetual 380 (underrated af idgaf fite me 1v1 Rust snipers only);
  • Meridia ~~(I was born there in 2117, honestly I'm excited to get back home and hug my wife)~~;
  • New fire warbond (where they nerfed fire? wtf?);
  • New warbond;
  • New warbond;
  • ~~The predator strain actually nvm I genuinely refuse to ever play against them, not fun, gg bb, these guys are bullshit~~
  • HOLY SHIT A COMPLETELY NEW FACTION ATTACKED OUR PLANETS THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNEXPECTED AND I MUST UPDATE&BOOT THE GAME IMMEDIATELY ~~(I looked up the first game's lore beforehand and I knew 100% this was going to happen, but still)~~, also new warbond;
  • New warbond (idgaf I'm bringing the One True Flag on a Super Helldive and you ARE going to put up with me);
  • Flame brigade (idr when they were born but I loved them)
  • ... Super Earth? Seriously, I honestly did not see this coming, maybe I should have, but I didn't.
  • New warbond;
  • New warbTHAT IS A FUCKING HALO: CURSED EDITION BLUNDERBUSSond;
  • The steam rewiew bomb cape
    • The Steam review bomb cape
      • The Steam review bomb cape
  • Xbox recruits (finally my brother and I can play together with something that isn't Sea Of Thieves or Destiny 2)

... and we're still going.

The point is, in an age when the pre–StopKillingGames videogame industry defines "live service" game as a non–government owned legal money printing machine, to me Helldivers 2 is the only working example of an actual living game, and... a bit of a miracle.
A Sony funded live service gold rush miracle, but hey, even God™ got gotta earn that bread.

... relevant to the last paragraph: EU citizens, go sign the SKG petition right now. Super Earth demands it.

That's the name for the new stratagem I'd make. It would be like the legal, but instead of a ground attack air frame it would be for air superiority. Time to control the skies and dog fight the enemies of Super Earth!

Any tips for a new player? Less gameplay tips (I'll figure that out as I go), more like unwritten rules and etiquette?

Throughout my 991 hours of playtime ^holy^ ^shit^ ^get^ ^a^ ^life^ I've seen many divers using the HMG at the lowest firerate possible, sometimes at 600RPM when just picking it up from a corpse or something, but people using it at 750RPM has been a VERY rare occurrency, at least as far as I could tell when I wasn't busy surviving.

Obviously if you pick it up because you have no other option you're going to go for the less uncomfortable setting, and if you're trying to shoot down a gunship you won't go Rambo with it, but other than such edge cases...

... what gives?

Why would you choose the ohfuckohshitohfuck stratagem and not use the ohfuckohshitohfuck setting when five hulks are chasing you (A.K.A. the ohfuckohshitohfuck situation)?
As far as I can tell THE appeal of the HMG is its insane DPS.
