Hello,

I have happily playing games on Bluefin and recently rebased to Bazzite DX in order to take advantage of non-Flatpak Steam and Sunshine. Everything worked well for a day or two, until it did not.

Both of my currently installed Steam games (Half-Life RTX and Split Fiction) just crashes as they start. I did a sanity check by verifying the game files integrity as well as reinstalling, but it did not fix the issue. I also installed a third game that I knew runs on my machine (LEGO Builder's Journey) and it did not work either.

I ran the games with the PROTON_LOG=1 %command% launch options to produce logs but as they are 4K, 25K and 54K lines long I don't know what to look for. (The logs if you want to take a look)

Ah yes, when launching Split Fiction I have some Unreal Engine-specific error dialog named "Wine C++ Runtine Library" that reads

Assertion failed!

Program:
Z:\var\home\axel\.steam\steam\steamapps\common\Split
Fiction\Split\Binaries\Win64\SplitFiction.exe
File: ../src-lsteamclient/steamclient_main.c
Line: 357

Expression: "!status"

Press OK to exit the program, or Cancel to start the Wine debugger.

Clicking OK opens a new error dialog named "The UE-Split Game has crashed and will close". Searching for both error dialogs online did not bring anything useful (the second dialog seems to be extremely brings Windows-specific fixes).

If anyone knows where I should look, that would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I forgot to specify that I also tried rollbacking to a previous version of Bazzite and that The Sims 4 installed with Lutris does work.

Edit 2: I did a sanity check by running a native game (Portal 2) and it crashed after the Valve intro video. Is it possible my Steam install is borked?

Resolution:

The fact that even native games would crash lead me to believe that maybe I borked my Steam install while moving folders between the Flatpak and native versions of Steam.

So I went nuclear: I closed Steam, rm -rf'd ~/.steam and ~/.local/share/steam, re-launched it, installed a game and launched it. It did not crash!

All this wasted time because I did not want to waste time re-downloading my games...

Now comparing the two outputs of ~/.steam before and after, I can see that many folders and files were missing.

Framework Laptop 16
Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon
AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics × 8

I keep trying to restart Steam, and I keep getting this. Strangely, the first time I tried to record what was happening, it successfully opened on that occasion, but ~~I couldn't get it to work again.~~ I lowered the resolution to record.

Edit: Since the main image slot doesn't seem to work, I'll try to add it bellow:

Edit 2: NVM, it keeps changing it from ![](https://europe.pub/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsopuli.xyz%2Fapi%2Fv3%2Fimage_proxy%3Furl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fi.ibb.co%252FRTjTRgH8%252FSteam-UI-issue.webp) to ![](https://europe.pub/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsopuli.xyz%2Fapi%2Fv3%2Fimage_proxy%3Furl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fi.ibb.co%252FRTjTRgH8%252FSteam-UI-issue.webp)!!!

Edit 3: REALLY?!? Even if I put the link in an inline code block?!?

Update: Strangely, it works consistently when using the desktop shortcut, but consistently fails when using the menu shortcut.

Update 2: I've commented the contents of the two .desktop files.

Update 3: Changing the main Exec in the .desktop that doesn't work to be the same as the one that does didn't work. Although using one of the "sub-options" from the menu short cut such as "Store" or "Library" seems to work, even though the default launch doesn't.

I've installed the fitgirl repack of the original Bournout: Paradise on an old HP laptop running Linux Mint. The game runs fine but will not recognise input from my 8bitdo Pro2 controller.

The controller works on the laptop, as I can play Midtown Madness 2 with the controller no problem.

I've tried the Windows and Android modes of the controller, and neither of them work. I've installed the game through Lutris and it's running on Wine.

Any help on workarounds for this is appreciated. The easiest solution would probably be a program that maps the controller inputs to the keyboard inputs for the game.

@linux_gaming

An app that Work without Problem on Windows, is not able to install on #Wine.
Chause, it searches his ressources all beside the setup.exe instead of its subdirectorys.

Any Idea what`s wrong here?

Hi!

I JUST switched over to Linux and am trying my hand at gaming. Learned about Luanti and got VoxelLibre going. Game's great, but the lack of sprint is killing me... Looked for mods that would support it, but people were saying that the only one made stopped working.

Are there any good and active (in development) Minecraft clones that have that feature?

I just ran garuda update for the second time now today, it updated some nvidia things too, yet all above issues persist. I have steam, proton, protonge, proton experimental, wine, dxvk, vulkan, everything installed. I can't install newer drivers manually, i get an error about conflicts and installation gets aborted (bauh). What does proton require, or my gpu is simply too old for it? or am i doing something wrong?

Hey!

Windows 11 gamer here, I basically only use my new PC desktop for gaming. Using Nvidia. Right now playing mostly GW2 and CK2.

I just started fiddling around with Linux a few weeks ago. I tried Linux Mint but had problems with CK2 recognizing my Nvidia card despite installing the driver. So I moved over to Ubuntu. CK2 is now working perfectly, but GW2 is stuttering whenever I move my mouse, making it not playable. I’m running it as a non Steam game on Steam.

Which distro would you recommend for me? I’m thinking about Bazzite (but maybe it’s mostly for handheld games?) or Pop_OS? Fedora? Or can I maybe fix GW2 on Ubuntu somehow?

All the different distros is making this a bit overwhelming 😅

Hi all,

Been using fedora atomic on my previous laptop for about a year (kinoite) and when I bought my current one, I had the guy selling it install Bazzite on it. He installed the gnome version, which is not ideal and also there are a few weird things happening occasionally. I finally decided to just reinstall everything, but I’m stuck trying to get the right settings on the bazzite download page. This laptop has no dedicated GPU and there is no such option while selecting the hardware. Is there a correct choice in this case, or should I just go with whatever AMD GPU?

Thanks,

EDIT: Thanks a lot for the replies, will try thse settings.

This isn't a technical post just my general experience as I am only roughly two or three months into using Linux. But I currently am running EndeavourOS on kernel version 6.13.7, using Mesa 25.0.1 Im on KDE Plasma as my desktop using Wayland. First off I want to admit I was afraid I was going to have to run away in fear back to windows trying to use this card as previously I was on Mint and I knew I was going to have to find a different OS to use or wait or I found the XanMod kernel but that didnt work, so I switched. The card has honestly been incredibly reliable with a occasional bug but in my experience not terrible ones, Cyberpunk crashed one time when I loaded but it was one time and Ive played maybe four hours since, my login screen did freeze up once but only once and a restart fixed it. I have successfully played Cyberpunk, Marvel Rivals, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Red Dead Redemption and had no issues except the two minor ones i mentioned before. Im sorry I dont have benchmark results or something but I wanted to help provide a little more info on this card. I also should note I initially dropped 50watts off the card and it has been like this since its been in my PC. Also I dont like raytracing so your experience could be different TL/DR : She games! With very minor issues thus far. If you guys have any questions feel free I would love to help with anything!

I purchased Split Fiction on Steam (Fedora, DNF version) and am playing it with two DualSense controllers (using Bluetooth).

At first, I did not use Steam Input, and it detected what they were. It even changed the colors on the controllers, but they immediately stopped working.

I was able to resolve this issue for a while by using Steam Input, but now it randomly selects a controller and does not accept input from it.

Anyone else experience these issues?

Releasing on schedule again! Improved signs, item frames and maps will let you put whatever you need on display, mob spawning and structure generation should work better than before, multiple optimizations and reworks should make the experience smoother than ever, and you can behold the new textures and enjoy the improved sound effects by sitting or laying on the ground! And there's more.

I am gonna reinstall my system.

But I want to keep the Time played stat of the game.

I found all other data of lutris like banners, runners, runtimes but not this.

Any Idea where can I find Time played data, if it's even saved in file ?

Also does any you know where the KDE Plasma clipboard data is saved ? I've been using that as mini watch later list 😅

it's not much, but it's honest work.

This game was basically dead, but the dev work was apparently transferred to some volunteers. They put out a huge update, put it up for sale at -94% until March 5th and enabled EAC support for Linux.

Hoping to get more people to play this and keep it alive.

I wanted to dip my toes into linux by trying it on my previous machine, which unfortunately has an NVIDIA GTX 670 GPU.

I tried Nobara and loved the look and feel. But unfortunately the GPU isn't officially supported. I tried to install the NVIDIA driver using this guide: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2015/fedora-nvidia-guide/ but that resulted in a system that won't boot.

Can you recommend a distro that works out of the box or at least let's me install the proprietary driver without issue?

Love to see more benchmark apps, the few we've had don't all get updated that often.

I have a nvidia GPU and wanted to use wayland / sway. I was able to get it working, but setting WLR_RENDERER=vulkan makes it stop working. Since sway does not officially support nvidia GPU usage, it seems I may be out of luck

I dont own many games, but I tried a few and they worked fine without issues. But I always heard that vulkan is the future of linux gaming.

Will I be missing out on a lot by not using vulkan renderer with wayland / sway? Do some games not work unless I use vulkan ?

Hello, recently, the Roblox client "Sober" has been requesting more permissions since the latest update.

  • Screen content
  • Personal subfolder of execution app/com.discord.Discord
  • Personal subfolder of execution discord-ipc-0

Does this seem suspicious to you?

(I'm not taking into account Roblox's privacy policy, which is bad, just the Sober client)
