They desperately want it to be. The first time an ICE dipshit gets killed, they’ll feel like they can take the gloves off.

Taking the gloves off could mean a couple of things:

putting lots of white people in camps / deporting them for disloyalty
killing people and saying it’s because they deserve to die (as opposed to current false self-defense claims)
replacing elected officials in ‘liberal’ areas by force / military style governance

Basically, they’re still at least pretending the rule of law sticks. They’re arguing against court orders, not ignoring them. Claiming legal reasons for killings (even if video evidence obviously doesn’t agree). Talking about how they have to get their act together for elections, not saying they’ll ignore them.
