The shooting took place late Wednesday outside the Capital Jewish Museum, which was hosting an American Jewish Committee event at the time of the incident.

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced the deaths in an X post, saying, “We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share.”

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriquez of Chicago, Illinois, "chanted 'Free, free Palestine,’ while in custody," she added.

"“No aid has entered the Gaza Strip since 2 March,” said Nahed Shuhibar, head of Gaza’s Private Transport Association, in an interview with Alaraby TV.

“Aid lorries are still stuck at the Karem Abu Salem crossing.”"

"He told the network that the “obvious appearance” of the war on #Gaza is that "thousands of innocent #Palestinians are being killed, as well as many #Israeli soldiers," adding that "from every point of view, this is obnoxious and outrageous."

Imagine my surprise reading this on the LA Times this morning (emphasis mine):

“I would not acknowledge reproduction as a human right, but instead as a form of rape,” IndictEvolution wrote on Lemmy.World in July 2023. “I am also not bothered by infanticide as long as it is done humanely...”

Here is an archive of the article.

Here is his account.

It looks like he only stayed on Lemmy for about a month, most likely a temporary Reddit exile with the earliest exodus on June 2023. The article mentions threads on Reddit but doesn't provide any quotes from there. User IndictEvolution on Reddit deleted their account, and the article makes it sound like they are referring to a different username that they don't specify.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, has stated that Israel intends to take control of Gaza. His coalition partner Bezalel Smotrich is promising further destruction on a massive scale and “cleansing” – code for displacing and potentially expelling Palestinians.

Everything they are doing and have threatened to do is illegal under international law. For a network of professional lobbyists, however, the bad guys aren’t those carrying out a genocide but those who oppose it.

The US has obtained new intelligence suggesting that Israel is making preparations to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, even as the Trump administration has been pursuing a diplomatic deal with Tehran, multiple US officials familiar with the latest intelligence told CNN.

Such a strike would be a brazen break with President Donald Trump, US officials said. It could also risk tipping off a broader regional conflict in the Middle East — something the US has sought to avoid since the war in Gaza inflamed tensions beginning in 2023.

Indian forces have killed the Maoist rebel chief and dozens of other fighters, the country’s home minister says, calling it a decisive blow in a decades-long conflict.

India has been waging an all-out offensive against the last remaining groups of the Naxalite rebellion, a far-left Maoist-inspired fighting movement that began in 1967.

Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah announced on Wednesday that Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraju, was among 27 rebels killed by security forces in central India’s Chhattisgarh state.

Shah identified Rao as the general-secretary of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist group and the “topmost leader and the backbone” of the Naxal movement.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that the bloc’s foreign ministers agreed to a €5.5m ($6.2m) contract aimed at supporting the broadcaster’s “vital” work. Described as “short-term emergency” aid, this funding acts as a “safety net” to preserve independent journalism, she said.

""The world is judging," Lammy said. "History will judge them [the #Israeli government]. Blocking aid, expanding the war, dismissing the concerns of your friends and partners. This is indefensible and it must stop.""

"Two days after Benjamin Netanyahu announced he was lifting the siege of #Gaza, #Israel is still blocking food from reaching starving #Palestinians, the #UN has said, as the leader of the country’s centre-left Democrats party said his country was becoming a pariah nation that “kills babies as a hobby”.

Only five trucks of aid had reached Gaza by Tuesday afternoon and aid workers had not been given permission to distribute even that token shipment..."

"Earlier that day, Israel’s military declared an entire city a combat zone, airstrikes killed more than 60 people, and the finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, said Israel’s army would “wipe out” what remains of Palestinian Gaza.

“We will not stand by while the Netanyahu government pursues these egregious actions. If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response,” the three allied governments said in a statement on Monday."

The military spokesperson for Yemen’s Ansarallah group (the Houthis), Yahya Saree, announced yesterday that the group has begun enforcing a naval blockade on the port of Haifa in Israel, in line with directives issued by its leadership.

In an official statement, Saree warned: “We alert companies whose vessels are currently docked at this port or heading towards it that Haifa has, from the moment of this statement’s release, become one of our targets. These companies must take this announcement — and any future ones — into serious consideration.”

He added that the decision followed the group’s successful enforcement of a blockade on Eilat Port, which has since ceased operations.

Hungary’s parliament approved a bill on Tuesday initiating the country's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC), marking a sharp rebuke of the court’s legitimacy following its arrest warrant against Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The move, backed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government, launches a year-long process that will formally end Hungary’s participation in the ICC. The decision was passed with 134 votes in favor and 37 against, according to the Hungarian parliament’s website.

This week... current Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is in Saudi Arabia with Trump, where he (Jassy) has announced a partnership between the company and an A.I. firm cofounded by close Trump family ally Mohammed bin Salman. Bin Salman is the de facto Saudi leader who is believed to have ordered the 2018 kidnapping, murder, and dismemberment of a columnist at the Bezos-owned Washington Post (at least, that’s what the CIA concluded; bin Salman denies it). Bin Salman was also accused by Bezos himself in 2019 of hacking Bezos’ phone and obtaining information about an extramarital affair that was later published by the National Enquirer. Time heals all wounds, apparently, except for those suffered by the people who were working for Jeff Bezos when Mohammed bin Salman had them murdered. Allegedly.

Years from now, one wonders if figures like Bezos will still expect to command respect and authority in the United States after having supported what is in essence an attempt to make someone king.
