Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to any of the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.

China should be sanctioned by the EU. This shouldβve happened a while back, right now we are helping russia in ukraine by trading with china.
While I agree with your sentiment, the EU is waaaaay more dependent on the Chinese market than the US. This bears catastrophical economical risks. Also the EU would probably harms itself way more than China, so it is debatable if this would make sense at all.
We should hit russia where it hurts, economically.
If we "sanction" china (successfully), russia will just buy labour elsewhere while we create a recession for ourselves.
Yeah, why not? Let us shoot our self in the foot while we are still fucked by the US, just because some chinese dudes are working in Russia.
This is a gross trivilaization. China is a decisive supporter of Russia in its war against Ukraine and a big threat to Europe and world. Beijing is closely watching Western democracies' reaction to Russia's aggression as they are seeking a war with Taiwan and other neighbours. Just watch China's increasingly aggressive behaviour against practically all its neighbours in Asia.
Are they? As far as i know they are selling stuff to the russians, that is a bit different than being an active supporter. Yes, China is observing the conflict, but as far as i think only as a part of the whole self destruction of the west that is currently going on. Regarding the aggressive behavior i can only say that my relatives in Vietnam (some of them active in the military) are seemingly less worried about China than the current way of the US...
They are also buying a lot of oil from Russia, China doesn't want to risk it's business in the west but ideologically it is aligned with Russia.
So does India and everybody else but you dont hear about them supporting russian war of aggression
Because there have not been reports of Indian working in factories in Russia or them being captured at the front lines. The involvement of india and everybody else (what ever that mean) is not comparable to that of China, but I'm not sure what your point is.
Yes but there are reports of Nepalese and Indians fighting on front line
In Ukraine?
Yeah there were some reports about it if you look online
I don't see anything credible, not like there is news on Chinese nationals?
Im just saying that EU is also partly responsible for the russia-ukraine war, all those years buying cheap russian oil and gas has enabled russia to create a formidable army
@Anonymaus@feddit.org
Posts circulating on Chinese social media encourage 'real men' to join Vladimir Putin's army. And while Beijing censors anything that puts China in a bad light -such as reports on Chinese citizens fighting for Russia and being caught by Ukraine- it doesn't censor Russia's conscription ads. And this is just another among many activities how China support Russia's aggression.
Addition, and as a contrast to that, Indians were βdupedβ by agents into fighting for Russia, with stories how they got tricked by agents and sent to the battlefield have shocked their families, all of whom are poor - their parents and siblings in India are either tuk-tuk drivers, tea sellers or handcart sellers.
You'll find easily more reliable sources with similar content.
There are CCP sanctioned officers working in russia near the ukraine border. China has been a part of that invasion from the get go.
I think usa is much more of an ally to russia than China
They are all allies, thereβs a reason why tiktok promoted trump all the time during the elections.
Yeah pretty much, EU is screwed
Nah US is a temp ally to china, as soon as trump is done the US is back on the side of democracy
