I mean I still remember the Panama Papers, CumEx, Snowden, Wikileaks, Chelsea Manning. Nothing ever happens to the people in power. This was always gonna end like this.

Check out the Pandora papers! You won't hear about that on NBC

The Pandora Papers are 11.9 million leaked documents with 2.9 terabytes of data that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published beginning on 3 October 2021.

Think Panama part 2, lots of world leaders banking internationally to avoid the taxes they make into law for everybody else. Not a peep from "mainstream media" that I know of.

Exactly. People in power learned a while back to just wait out the outrage and continue doing whatever the fuck they want.

i remember all of those except CumEx. Given the spacing between Panama and Snowden i think that was during the year i spent dead for tax purposes and i do not want to google CumEx. What does it stand for?

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

CumEx / CumCum is a tax evasion / theft scheme in the billions local to Germany. No wonder you haven't heard of it

[–] phneutral@feddit.org 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As far as I know it is a European thing, non?

I'd have to check and get angry again...

what i mean is, is it short for something. i would have known about that, i feel like i should have known about that, that was my profession. i had clients in germany. just, i legitimately have two missing years in my memory.

it means WithWith or WithOut as far as i know. give me a little, i'm not googling Cum Cum

Basically, very rich people got reimbursed taxes for losses that never manifested (or twice for the same thing, I think both schemes existed)

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

that's not what i'm asking. i know how to buy losses. i can set you up with losses if you want to buy losses, same way the rich folk are doing. it's a very uncomplicated scheme. i'm asking what the Cum and Ex in CumCum or CumEx are short for so i can look it up and do my own research without googling Cum how much more explicit can i be

like how FedEx means Federal Express

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

that I can't help you with, I never cared enough about the exact terminology for "billionaire parasites stole billions from the German taxpayer and got away with it"

right right when i wrote that comment, i had just been on hold for four godsdamned hours and then they answered. and then my phone's battery died. this fucking day i hate being on hold they are going to go home before they answer again.

[–] CainTheLongshot@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Since no one really answered, and i was curious, i went ahead and googled it, lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CumEx-Files

Edit: After further review of the links, Cum-Ex and Cum-Cum doesn't look to be short for anything:

“Cum-Ex” trades involved the acquisition of shares with (cum) dividends due on or just before the dividend record date and delivery of these shares after the dividend record date without (ex) dividends, which made it possible to obtain multiple returns of capital gains tax that had only been paid to the German tax authorities once.

Ah gotcha. Thank you for the actual explanation and link it's a clever but blatantly naked fraud. One of those things that you'd think the only reason they got caught is because they pushed it too far.
