I'm so glad all cats I've had have been free feeding and self limiting. Makes it so much easier, just fill the bowl and they eat when they feel like it. I've known cats that that was impossible though. Mother's cats were little hoovering machines.

My cats are the same, except occasionally my cat will just scream at me to watch her eat for no reason.

Same reason that dogs stare when they poop. They want to make sure someone's watching out for threats while they're vulnerable.
