If I remember right, Musk made a comment on this that was around "Once you get enough money, you stop seeing it as money and more like a high score."

Yeah, a lot of rich folks said it's been about one-upping each other.

Mark Cuban was asked if he wants to increase his net worth. He responded that he's busy managing the Dallas Maverick's. But that interview seems to insinuate that there is an expectation amongst the wealthy to just keep accumulating wealth. Literally like a cancer that keeps growing.
