More like being on a train headed for that cliff and the brake room is guarded by a squad of toughs, and everyone on the train has been socially conditioned to stigmatize any mention of braking or slowing down, and they will likely team up to try to stop you before you even get close enough to the brake room for the toughs to even threaten you (but if you do get that far, they'll kick the shit out of you all the same).

It's like it's taboo to even mention hitting the brakes, and people will treat you like a social contagion and a danger to society if you bring it up
