Authors trying not to write a child to be a moron, getting the adults and themselves in danger and inevitably resulting into on of their deaths [challenge impossible]
Children are morons, though.
Not as much as depicted in films tbh, maybe it's different in the USA eh, different cultures and allat but in films they exagerate it a lot
