We really need this, hopefully they can figure out the land issues admirably.

I hope you're right, it wouldn't hold my breath though. Also I doubt the tickets will be affordable

Yeah it's gona be more of the same shit we try to build anything in this country. It's some sacred ground, it's some rare tree toad, it's some conservative boomer twit who won't sell even it's the greatest offer possible and will be set for life but won't because of spite. Its the Karen's, oh nooiiiiise will stress out my 10 fucking cats imgoing to make a petition that some fucking way makes it all the way to the supreme court. Then it's gona be another indigenous group, "wellnyou haven't paid your 100billion on top of the 500billion that you already paid from some back ass water treaty that no one knows what the fuck is actually in there. Then some random ass stand off will go down between protestors and police., then everyone one is gona be like "why do we even need a super cool and fast Choo Choo? I got my huyihontoyocheford shit box 9000." Then the conservatives are gona try to run on that, it's gona be a shit debacle all the way down. There gona end up cutting corners and shit try to save face on time and budget. And it's going to end up like the fucking embarrassing shit show that is UP express.

I find it funny that we do this for roads basically every day, and nobody gives a shit. But since a railway is novel, this storm may come (or maybe not)

I live in a small town outside Ottawa. Facebook has decided that I’m one of the people that wants to see the No ALTO post. The comments on the post are hilarious. Some people make good points about it been a huge expense, but the rest are people claiming that no one wants it and nothing will ever grow again between between Toronto and Montreal. Combine that with people that think we can run fast trains on the existing freight lines and the other that think we should just be building pipelines to refineries that can’t use tar sand oil. It’s good for a laugh and but I can’t bring myself to engage with them.

Ya, same. And probably the same group of racists that think a new cricket pitch is the end of the world.

More like the private businesses will fuck over anyone and everything in their path, and the tax payers will foot the bill

Brother this is what happens in every infrastructure project. But I'd rather get fucked on it getting a fast Choo Choo out of it.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Here's hoping you can afford the ticket

In EU, high speed rail is more expensive than flying. And it is worth every penny.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So its gonna be one of those things that benefits the few?

Have used high speed all over Europe. Often 4x the price of flying, but you have to book pretty far ahead to be able to get a seat. Works out much faster than flying because you can arrive minutes before it leaves, no checking luggage, and you leave and arrive right in the city center, not an hour outside of the city.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Ouch, so its gonna be out of reach for many people to use. I know flying is cheaper in europe, but still. Especially with the cost of living crisis were experiencing, only people with disposable income will be able to take advantage of this. Very unfortunate.

What's a flight price for comparison to Canadian flights? From Vancouver to Toronto I've paid as low as $69 on swoop and as high as $1000 on air Canada.

I'm still on the fence about this. I think so many people are going to be fucked over by this
