Wait so they’ll jail CEOs for not giving them what they want, but they won’t jail CEOs for causing mass destruction of the earth? Wtf

wait you're telling me that all this time governments could have just threatened CEOs with jail time over not doing something?? why not start by jailing the zucc for his company directly partaking in sex trafficking children?? - why do they need to scan every message ever sent if we already have evidence of this happening and no-one is being held accountable?? or what about all the epstein pedophiles - where is bill gates' arrest warrant?? if any of this was ever to protect children this is where they would start....

I propose that any government official seeking (more) mass surveillance be immediately told "no", thrown out of office, and prosecuted.

You had me until "out of office" ... "from a great height" was right there!!

I expected that astute readers would notice the opportunity on their own. :)

Perhaps the defenestration could be an escalating affair: Use a ground floor window the first time. Add a floor for each subsequent offence. Add a floor for each co-conspirator supporting the mass surveillance attempt.

Oh bollocks. I am not a tech genius, but good enough. For almost every person, this makes everything passing through your mobile devices, entirely open. The government is opening the door, has contracts with companies like Palantir...... Also, the system will be hacked in hours or days allowing open access to those who want it. Pure stupidity

I guess they'll have to get religious exemptions. Like with the "swords/blades".

What if the CEO is jewish?

It's just more client-side scanning. We all know what this is at this point.

People are gonna start running their own mail servers.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago

As in email? You must be joking. They are the worst. Even for encryption they are bad. They leak metadata like crazy.

Matrix is a step up. Unless that's what you mean by "mail server".
