๐“Œ‚๐“๐“๐“ ๐“„ฟ๐“ˆ–๐“Žผ๐“‚‹๐“‡Œ decodes to S42-x-t-B1 A-n-g-r-y using Manuel de Codage's hieroglyphic alphabet

The transliteration is ๊œฅb๊œฃ-แธซ-t-st ๊œฃแธซ-n-g-r-y or sแธซm-แธซ-t-st ๊œฃแธซ-n-g-r-y, Gardiner's code is S42 Aa1 X1 B1 G1 N35 W11 D21 M17a

I don't know when U+13430 EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPH VERTICAL JOINER is used. When I paste the MdC code here, I see some above each other but not when I paste that back here or in UnicodePad, so it looks like the rendering works different in different contexts. The converter may be wrong: only :, not - should cause characters to stack, and it should prevent that with a ZWNJ or force that (if supported) with U+13430. Maybe try another? Also, ๐“ญ is just a variant way of writing ๐“‡Œ, much like ๐šŠ/๐‘Ž, ฯ•/ฯ†, ะ›/ฮ›, ่ซ–/่ฎบ, ๐“”/๐“• etc.

Given that the ASCII code for ๐“„ฟ๐“ˆ–๐“Žผ๐“‚‹๐“‡Œ is an English word and contextually sensible, I spent way too much time trying to find what someone must have typed into some converter to get ๐“Œ‚๐“๐“๐“ but I couldn't find a satisfactory answer. Note that the MdC code never contains single letters CEJOUV so they may have been dropped, and even more letters are dropped to get phonemic codes in examples I've seen like "Tutankhamun" โ†’ twt-๊œคnแธซ-๊žฝmn โ†’ ๐“‡‹๐“ ๐“ˆ–๐“๐“…ฑ๐“๐“‹น๐“‹พ๐“‰บ๐“‡“.

๐“Œ‚๐“๐“๐“ seems to mean Sekhmet according to Wikipedia. So the full thing is "Sekhmet angry".

Damn, DuckDuckGo is bad at searching weird characters. Should have checked that, thanks

Random hieroglyphs results: Prague and Google

Prague is my ISP-reported location. Strange that DDG uses it although I disabled results specific to Czechia.

[โ€“] Carighan@piefed.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Random weird symbols, you're from a non-US country -> Clearly must be something related to you. On-point for DDG's always-shitty results, at least from my experience. :<

Try the Tutankhamun code. I see home pages of Google Translate, Wiktionary, Roblox and some Unicode tables, and a Wiktionary entry for another hieroglyph. Only the last result actually contains the hieroglyph sequwnce. With local results enabled, I get the same nonsense but in Czech.

[โ€“] P1k1e@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Ugh! What's she so mad about THIS time?!

Thank you based Internet autist for doing the legwork and sharing your obsession of lexicography and cryptography ๐Ÿฉต

I think your initial hypothesis is correct, that the author simply pasted an English ~~word~~ phrase into an English/ASCII to Hieroglyphic converter, with the second word being Angry, and shit out some hieroglyphics.

Ironic, considering the punchline of the joke

These converters are usually not AI but this one is almost certainly vibe-coded:

https://toolkitsplus.com/tools/font-converter/mdc-hieroglyphs

It has a lot of flavor text that seems to be more focused on "use this to make a Unicode representation, which is SEO/AEO/GEO friendly because it can be turned into keywords/tokens" than "use this because it's accurate to the MdC spec"

Academic Digitization and SEO/GEO

Converting your academic documents using this tool isn't just about typography; it's about Semantic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). When large language models (LLMs) and Generative Engines crawl your academic website, they process Unicode hieroglyphs significantly better than legacy ASCII strings, boosting your academic visibility and citation potential across global research networks.

Goddess of war, pestilence and healing

That's quite the resume.

"Yes, I decided to minor in Healing just to round things out".

[โ€“] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or they are describing war as pestilence and healing.

[โ€“] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Or more likely they aren't using the Oxford comma, like normal people.

[โ€“] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, I don't think Oxford was around at the same time as Sekhmet.

[โ€“] Avicenna@programming.dev 34 points 1 day ago (4 children)

being the god of pestilence and healing is like being the god of toilets and beer, guaranteed not to run out of business

[โ€“] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 23 hours ago

alot of gods , or personification deity represent duality in thier nature, like gods of death also posesses life giving abilities.

[โ€“] Tattorack@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, you know, funny you should mention beer:

Sekhmet was a scourge upon humanity, slaughtering villages and drinking the blood of her victims. One village had the clever idea of mixing in red dye to their beer, covering the ground, and then hiding.

Sekhmet thought it was a village she had already slaughtered, drank all the "blood", got drunk, then slept off her lust for genocide. After she woke up, Sekhmet took up healing for a change.

Disclaimer; I've written this entirely from memory so it might not be exactly how the story goes.

[โ€“] Avicenna@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago

completely coincidental, nice story thanks

Well then the ultimate loophole is being the god of vertical integration. Wait I think that is called a shareholder.

[โ€“] Carighan@piefed.world 2 points 22 hours ago

In a vertical integration rush, sell vertical integration seminars!
