General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Wow, it's like if you price society out of legitimate, properly tested sources they'll go elsewhere.

Surely the next round of prohibition will fix this!

The Spanish Parliament are looking at banning smoking on the (street) terraces.... While that worked like a CHARM during covid.... Not that anyone didn't stand up, take one step away from the table and light up, and then- because there were no ashtrays they flick the butts on the ground (but don't worry, the government will put up signs to day 'don't!'....problem solved!)

I'm wondering why there isn't an encouragement to grow tobacco. Isn't growing tobacco for personal use, without sale, legal in the UK? Genuinely boggles my mind that there aren't enough communities sprouting up for it, before people resort to illicit sources.

Edit: I had a look, and you need to register with HMRC to grow tobacco for personal use. How strange. Here is the link for anyone interested: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tobacco-products-duty-apply-to-register-premises-for-the-manufacture-of-tobacco-for-the-personal-use-of-the-grower-tp4
