The colors and shading on the new runestones make them difficult to differentiate visually, especially with low screen brightness or night mode. I often play on low brightness at bedtime and it's really hard to see. There needs to be more contrast between the color on the stone and the stone itself.

Stylistic comment: the new sprites for runestones and seeds look like eggs. Too perfectly round in their shape

Question to Evan: what's your preferred way to provide beta feedback? This is my first time getting involved in beta even though I've been playing for 10+ years

Unfortunately Evan has proven immune to constructive criticism and only ever doubles down when given feedback that isn't unqualified praise, so don't expect anything to change ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

some criticism isnt as constructive as you might think.

Evan listens to the community

Remember the upcoming talent "recall glyph"

Remember how this was pointed out as needlessly confusing, using a word that was already used for another very specific game mechanic?

Remember that in those discussions, it was pointed out that another perfectly good word was already in use for one of the items this talent affected?

Remember when people began to casually use the term "recall rune" or even just "RR" because that was obviously, OBVIOUSLY the most logical and simple choice to name the still-in-development talent?

But of course, it was not Evan's original idea, and thus it was completely unacceptable! Recall Inscription it is!

It's an observed pattern.

Was I not supposed to provide support for my own position?

My dude... I have no idea what to say. You feel personally attacked by someone giving an opinion about somebody else entirely.

That's completely nuts. Do some soul searching.

They definitely are hard to distinguish with low screen brightness. I like that they look like gold inlayed in stone. It just needs to be a brighter color of yellow.

What I don't like about them is some of them look too bold. Like, why is the question mark so fat? Same with the exclamation mark. The star on the stone of enchantment looks like a little person. Like a meeple from a board game, and not like a star at all.

I also don't care for the fat gray border around all the stones. None of the other items have such a strong border. The color of the stones themselves is great, with nice shading, and then there's this flat border around them that just looks off.

Most items have the same style of border. It's black at 40% opacity

It just seems way too fat on the stones. I would have sworn the border was actually wider, but I think it's just because, on the stones, the border pixels are all adjacent to each other, and on things like potions they only connect diagonally. Plus the stones have shading where the darkest parts are actually darker than the border, and that makes it look even worse somehow.

Here's an enlarged screenshot for comparison.

I like a lot of the new sprites but agree the runestones are difficult to see.

These sprites feel not pixel dungeon like but from some reddit indie game about to flop. Just not the same vision, and too much shading.
