I could see your point if you said whiskey but not vodka. Good espresso should have tons and tons of complex flavour notes and volatile aromatics. Straight vodka just tastes like hand sanitizer.

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who loves espresso and whiskey but doesn’t understand the allure vodka at all, outside of getting drunk or adding alcohol taste to a cocktail without adding other flavours.

As someone who you’d probably consider an espresso elitist, I also love moka pot. It’s a great way to get stronger coffee without needing to spend a ton of money. I don’t like it as much as espresso but I’d say it’s 80% as good, for way, way cheaper.

Also, I don’t consider myself an elitist, I don’t disrespect others or anything like that, I just happen to like the same drink that the snobs do. I hate their attitude but agree with their tastes, if that makes sense. I wish espresso wasn’t so pretentious, but it’s fun to make fun of.

Slowly sipping a really nice shot of espresso has got to be in my top 5 most pleasurable experiences in my adult life.
