Really looking forward to the new PSAs about land mines that are going to come out in the next decade. Super cool, Europe.

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 15 hours ago

Hiya kids, it's me, Kaptain Klaymore! Hey, do you know what keeps you safe from the evil Moskovite barbarians? Haha, that's right! I do!

This is 100% for their planned war of aggression.

It's not just kayfabe, it's not just money for land mine manufacturers. It's to provide a defense against a Russian counter-thrust after they drive NATO forces deep into Russia via a hole in this. That way they figure they can shape things via controlling where troops end up. Russia should 100% lay their own mine-fields in response because it's impossible to know exactly where NATO forces are going to dismantle their own minefields in future to thrust through some armored columns. They should wait until after NATO does it of course so they look worse but make the mines now, get out the plans for razor wire deployments and signage to attempt to block off the mine-fields from wandering people.

Westoids are completely deranged about losing hegemony to China and multipolarity and are preparing a suicide-rush on Russia. That or they want to dissuade Russia from helping China when they commit 80% of their forces along with the US to attacking and containing China (and possibly attacking Russian shipping in the process thus giving them valid reason to respond).

[–] huf@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

yep, they're seeing their hegemony slip away. this is when the rabid beast is most dangerous

[–] Coco0330@lemmygrad.ml 40 points 1 day ago

If Russia ever did that they would be calling it a Berlin Wall 2.0.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 59 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'll never understand how people can look at what happens to a place when you seed it with thousands/millions of landmines and still think "hey that's a good idea, let's do that!"

Just plant a bunch of hidden murder traps and dust off your hands, no need to think of the next generation(s)! And don't even worry about having a plan to ensure the eventual safe disarming and disposal of these fields of bombs, that's someone else's problem!

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They will be very successful at blowing up their own people, that's what they will achieve.

[–] Maeve@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 day ago

That's what I was thinking, some family on an outing.

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 1 day ago

All the years of regretful finger-wagging and hand-wringing about land mines these type of people do totally evaporates at the thought of killing Russians. I wonder if there's an historical animosity of some kind at play here? 🤔

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 42 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is going to murder a lot of refugees and migrants who'll have no idea this stupidity is at play, and I believe that's definitely part of this as well

This is 100% reason from the Poland govt, they will kill the refugees and then blame it on Belarus using their favourite phrases like "hybrid warfare" and "human wave".

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, do the euros NOT want to kill refugees and migrants? I was under the impression this was a "politically sanitary" way to do exactly that.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean yeah they do, but if they're earnest about putting these down to kill Russians, then it's more a side benefit than the intent

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

but if they’re earnest about putting these down to kill Russians

This is complete nonsense from military point of view, like Maginot Line but way worse, since mines by themselves ain't gonna stop anything, especially on a potential front so wide. But eurocrats are now on this level of malicious stupidity they might as well believe in their own delusions.

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

It's such a 1916 mindset, too. Like, land invasion? Come on. The euros know Russia doesn't need or want their little specks of land. If it comes to provoking another war, good luck stopping ballistic missiles, artillery, glide bombs and drones with landmines.

Therapy and calming the fuck down will do a lot more for their "national security" than any amount of defense spending at this point.

Yeah i doubt even the total loons like Kallas really expect Russia to attack them. It's about maintaining their cushy imperialist stools in EU and in times of faltering capitalism naturally they will resort to fascism to do it, and fascism needs The Enemy.

[–] narr1@lemmygrad.ml 46 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

"Well, yeah using anti-personnel mines could be considered immoral and unethical, but only if you don't consider the Russians as nonhumans!"

Also, all joking aside, I love living in a country with Alexander "I'd allow NATO nukes on Finnish soil" Stubb for president, that goddam warmongering idiot. I like to use a phrase to refer to him that I think is in one of our nation's most beloved wartime novels: Saatanan sotahullu

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In the land of drones and glidebombs, the landmined man is king.

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

We are classing landmines as stationary stealth drones, for marketing

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How long before some stupid ass Fin will accidentally get killed because of this

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The best part is they'll just pin the death on Putin

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago
[–] QuietCupcake@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Or not even a stupid ass one but just some innocent kid out playing around where they were told they're not supposed to.

[–] cayde6ml@lemmygrad.ml 28 points 1 day ago

But I thought that capitalism was about freedom? I thought that we didn't have to construct barriers to keep people from leaving?!-/s

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 day ago

As if the Poland-Belarus border is not fucked up enough already

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That’s dumb as shit. Like, you’d think that famed petulant arrogance would dissuade Euros from doing something this embarrassingly fucking stupid

[–] davel@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounded like bullshit to me, but nope.

  • Reuters last week: Finnish parliament votes to exit landmines treaty due to Russia threat
  • The Telegraph today: Europe is building a new ‘Iron Curtain’– with millions of landmines

Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have announced they will leave the Ottawa Convention of 1997, which prohibits anti-personnel landmines. Later in June, all five states are expected to give the United Nations formal notice of their withdrawal, allowing them to manufacture, stockpile and deploy such munitions from the end of the year. Together, they guard 2,150 miles of Nato’s frontier with Russia and its client state of Belarus.

Military planners are already working out which expanses of European forest and lake land would be planted with these deadly devices, laden with high explosives and shrapnel, if Vladimir Putin were to mass his forces against the alliance.

[–] burlemarx@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would these crazy people do this against themselves? Don't they think their own people will die with this nonsensical measure?

[–] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 1 day ago

You are under the false impression that these people care about the lives of their people.

[–] AcidLeaves@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

This is fake news btw y'all are terrible at identifying propaganda

No credible source for this at all

Horseshoe theory etc etc

Read some more NPR or something guys please

[–] marl_karx@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Dude there is an fckig article linked by a large reputable news outlet linked in the post, what are you even on about?

[–] AcidLeaves@hexbear.net 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Even by liberal standards isn't telegraph garbage

[–] marl_karx@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, it's more like a Tory newspaper. I don't like it personally, but they don't write fake articles, just twist the truth, like newspapers tend to do. Still better than tabloid press, but too much shitty framing, like most conservative newspapers (my opinion).

What I mean to say is that it is most likely not fake news.

[–] marl_karx@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 7 hours ago

Wait were you joking and I missing the joke?

[–] i_c_b_m@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 22 hours ago

You had me until NPR 🤣

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] AcidLeaves@hexbear.net 1 points 20 hours ago

that says nothing about those states wanting to landmine their borders

[–] surjomukhi@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 day ago

You got me in the first half.
