It's about the Pixel 10's native adoption of the Qi2 wireless charging standard (finally!)

the company has been pushing forward with its flagship phones for the betterment of the entire Android ecosystem, rather than just its own benefit

Pretty sure making it harder to install a custom ROM (potentially without GApps) on Pixel phones is mostly driven by its own benefit.

Aren't pixels still one of the most supported devices for custom ROMs?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

yes but it Pixel 10 is getting nerfed compared to prior versions. it is the begging of the end of pixel/custom rom run.

hopefully in the mean time, a solution is cooked up

That's not specific to the Pixel 10 though, is it?

[–] ByteMe@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not but pixel 10 will be the first one completely under the new rules.

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

True, I guess we'll see how much trouble it causes

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 5 points 2 weeks ago

No, but I assume it was what the person you replied to was referencing.

It's a little far-fetched to claim that including full support for Qi 2 on the Pixel 10 is akin to new features heralded by Nexus devices.

[–] tinned_tomatoes@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's especially funny because I swear the Nexus 5 not only had wireless charging, but had magnets inside near the charging coil as well. I distinctly remember a friend using a charging puck in their car that their Nexus 5 magnetised to.

Clickbait is getting out of control nowadays.

ngl. I do appreciate the magsafe case I got for my P8P. Being able to stick my phone on a holder is handy.

[–] tinned_tomatoes@feddit.uk 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You got downvoted for enjoying a feature lol. This sub is so pessimistic, I've noticed.

Phones aren't as exciting as they were, but it's still nice to get these little quality of life improvements.

It's weird that an enthusiast community isn't more enthusiastic, but as long as everyone's enjoying themselves, I guess.
