My first thought when seeing the garden hose design was that it’s well designed because you can cut the hose and attach connectors without special tools. And the connectors attach quickly without screwing. But now that I’ve used this system, I have to say it’s dysfunctional. These plastic connectors cannot withstand normal domestic water pressure. The pressure builds until one of the ends just blasts off, sprays and floods.

There are 2 points of failure. Sometimes the connector ejects from the nipple, and sometimes the hose slips off the connector.

I can't speak to designs as you don't provide an example and Im not in Belgium. A couple of thoughts, from my experience in the us.

Water pressure is not the same everywhere in a city. Some places have very high water pressure, some places have terribly low pressure. It may be worth investing in a pressure gauge. There are adjustable and static gauges that will help manage water pressure.

If you leave your hose spigot on when the hose is not in active use, or even leave water in it. I would advise against this. The sun heats up the hose, increasing water pressure significantly, which can even cause the hose to burst.

Another thought, after doing a quick search. If this is the design you're talking about, then idk how anyone would expect this to last any amount of time unless the pressure was uselessly low. Or maybe us hoses are such crap that I can't compute how this design could function.

I can’t see that page.. it’s a Cloudflare page that blocks me and the archive.org version of it is a disaster with no pics. But I will attach something like what we have.

A garden hose connector system for Belgium should be designed to withstand the highest domestic pressure you could possibly find anywhere in the country that gets city-supplied water, plus a little more for good measure. A design that cannot do that is garbage.

Reducing the pressure would defeat my purpose, which at this moment is to test a washing machine, which needs to be able to withstand the water pressure of the house it would be installed in. My most common use is to feed a pressure washer, which should still receive a generous amount of pressure on the low pressure input.

We don’t have sun in Belgium :) Also, I am in the city and the hose is used indoors, not for gardening but for appliances close to the exteriour door.

US hoses are inconvenient due to needing to be screwed on, and if the metal connector gets out of round you probably need special crimpers to install hard-to-find connectors. And you can’t just cut a piece of hose off to make a short hose unless you have those special tools. But at least they work. They never blast off. The Belgian quick connectors seem nice superficially but it’s even less convenient when they blast off and spray water everywhere.

This is another pic showing the nipple side.
