> ❗️Rights group warns that Israel is advancing a plot to kill abducted Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has warned that intensified assaults on Marwan Barghouti reveal a dangerous intention by the Tel Aviv authorities to eliminate him. The group said these actions amount to a grave crime and a clear violation of international humanitarian law, urging the United Nations and global institutions to act without delay. Barghouti’s family received an anonymous call from an Israeli number confirming he had been violently attacked in custody, leaving him with critical injuries, including the severing of part of his ear and multiple fractures.

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs said the call has caused widespread distress, noting that efforts to reestablish contact with the caller have failed. It vowed to work with Palestinian officials to investigate the specifics of the assault and verify Barghouti’s condition. The Asra Media Office added that recent intimidation targeting his family reflects a broader pattern of pressure, citing continued isolation, torture, denial of visits, and threats from Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir as further evidence of a systematic effort to endanger his life.

The AMO placed full responsibility on Israel for Barghouti’s safety and the well-being of all prisoners, calling on the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and human rights organizations to intervene and launch an independent investigation. It said the international community’s silence enables the continued offenses inside Israeli prisons. Barghouti, a 66-year-old senior Fatah leader seen by many Palestinians as a potential successor to President Mahmoud Abbas, has been imprisoned since 2002 on charges he rejects and does not recognize as legitimate
