Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

He gave access to his catalog for free. He did not give copyright.

With free renewal long as they live in Greenland.

[–] redditmademedoit@piefed.zip 8 points 2 months ago

It's the difference between a nice gesture and giving away his life's work to take a stand. It's still a nice gesture, but I doubt he will financially notice the lost streaming royalties from his fanbase on Greenland. Boycotting Amazon is probably the bigger thing here.

[–] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Will it automatically show up in their Apple Music collection like that one U2 album?

[–] Claidheamh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That was still iTunes at the time!

[–] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 1 points 1 month ago

God, I'm so far out of the loop on things that I didn't know it wasn't itunes.

[–] SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 2 months ago

So basically people in Greenland can just listen to it for free if I'm understanding correctly?

That's basically nothing, just a PR move

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 56 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Can't think of anyone in show business who's been so based, for so damned long. Keep on rockin' in the free world, man.

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 38 points 2 months ago

We should have listened to him 😩

Keep on rocking in Greenland

Edit: help, I’ve had this song stuck in my head with the fake lyric for an hour

[–] zwerg@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The country version or the rock/punk version?

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Keep on rocking in the green land.

As far as I know, there's only one main version.

[–] zwerg@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Oof, I was thinking if out of the black, into the blue/out of the blue into the black. I need more sleep...

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

Well, you know what they say. It's better to burn out than it is to rust.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 46 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'll never forget how Amazon's leadership was intertwined with Donald Trump. Fuck Amazon.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Yeah and they killed shopping malls. Never buy anything from there, might as well sail the high seas.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 19 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Are we meant to lament shopping malls? Didn’t they kill small stores.

[–] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Before Amazon were malls, before that, the big stores came along like shopko, Walmart, etc. which still persist. But of you go back far enough you get "Department" stores, mainly in the big cities 100 years ago.

As an aside, the stock market has also always been fucked. All the way back to the beginning like Jay Gould and the rail company corruption.

The system has always been against us.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm getting Jay Gould and Jay Gruber confused.

[–] sniggleboots 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Which one has the bigass chin?

[–] username123@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago
[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't know what either of them look like, but if I remember correctly, Jay Gruber is the CEO of Blue Sky.

[–] sniggleboots 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sorry I was just making a Jay Leno joke

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That weird car guy? Or the new Joker after Heath Ledger?

[–] crabArms@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That weird car guy?

Jay Leno

the new Joker after Heath Ledger?

That creep is Jared Leto.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

Anyway Amazon didn't kill shopping malls. Online stores in general killed shopping malls. All of the businesses that we usually in the malls started selling directly online, so they shut themselves down.

Then it got confusing because then Amazon introduced the affiliate program and then you could buy things from all the retailers through Amazon. But the malls were dead by then anyway.

[–] X@piefed.world 21 points 2 months ago

Based af Neil Young, fuck yeah

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (4 children)

There are lots of good Americans, unfortunately though there are even more stupid/evil ones.

[–] microcapybara@sopuli.xyz 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Accurate, but Neil Young is Canadian.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I suppose I owe him an apology. 🫣

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No American would do this. Young is Canadian.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Sorry, then maybe he is what Americans should strive to be.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Also/or the stupid evil ones are -at the moment- far more motivated to fuck things up than the decent ones are to try to fix things.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

It's definitely an uphill battle to be a good American today.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Being a decent person means you are unwilling to do things you know are going to hurt others, even if they’re assholes. You’ll avoid conflict.

The problem is that assholes have no such restrictions, so they’re just fine with fucking other people over.

And then you have the people that drive past the car crash who just don’t want to deal with it.

So you can have relatively few assholes who can do a lot of damage. I wouldn’t say there are more stupid/evil ones, there are just a large majority unwilling to engage in the actual conflict needed to stop them.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I disagree, when a majority of more than two thirds of Americans either voted for or failed to vote against Trump, they decided they were OK with a sociopathic president that might destroy democracy for USA.
Opinion polls show that Trump still has about 33% support! Taking away healthcare from people, threatening USA's nearest and strongest allies, supporting Putin's war against Ukraine, damaging the economy badly, abandoning hundreds of international agreements, the atrocities of ICE and threatening democracy in USA, being obviously corrupt using DOJ to go after people who have opposed him. And this list isn't even half complete of the shit he is doing, and STILL about 33% support him!
I guarantee that it's easy to find another 18% that still support some of the above shit, and that absolutely means they are evil.

Claiming this is not a problem for a majority of the American people is delusional. You are refusing to acknowledge how bad it is.

Whale is fucking delicious though.
