hey no worries at all! it does have a bit of a steep learning curve so can be tough to get into when tired, so no pressure :) cheers

true! a great time for the turn-based crowd :)

Here's the full Steam event page: https://store.steampowered.com/sale/TurnBasedThursday2026

It's got:

  • Curated categories (tactics, JRPG, roguelites, hidden gems, steamdeck verified, etc)
  • Tons of discounts & new demos across a massive variety of turn-based games
  • A 45-minute Showcase highlighting ~20 selected titles from the festival lineup

Any games catch your eye?

thanks a lot for checking out the demo and sharing your feedback! i'm noting it all down. btw i'm planning a demo update in the next couple of days that will already address a couple of these points, namely give players more ways to get out when cornered somewhere by other tribes, plus some UX improvements for moving/staying. thanks again

true, one of impacts on the resource economy, for example, is that here you don't have stockpile limits, but you have carrying capacities, so if you have more than you can carry it gets left behind when you move

@athatet gave a great summary, and the Civ games are the biggest mainstream example of 4X games. there are many sub-genres and lots of games that use it as a foundation but extend it in various ways, and Folk Emerging does that too by centering around nomadic gameplay and complex ecosystems

hey I'm a solo gamedev and I recently launched the demo for Folk Emerging.

if you're into turn-based strategy games like Civilization and enjoy in-depth characters, cultures, and ecosystems, then this might be for you!

curious to hear what folks around here think
