this is actually the opposite of what I've seen. quite a few fanboys are dubious and some are boycotting with sad expressions on their faces.

my point was from an idealist perspective, "let's get rid of prisons" sounds great.

but when I read such statements, 99% of the time the concept seems to be the end. and no actual plan or realistic prospect to make that fantasy a reality.

"do away with prisons" is an idea that doesn't really seem feasable without a real plan.

meanwhile we can make changes to the prison system we have now to make it more habitable. make laws that protect prisoners while incarcerated. decent facilities, decent exercise equipment, easy ways to become educated or further education.

these are things that just take money to fix. and can be done now.

so... prisons under a different name is your suggestion? to stop prisons.

i am the exact same way. they've been so shitty that they have convinced me not to ever buy their stuff again.

i personally think its because games are so expensive, it seems most studios want to make players feel that they get their monies worth out of the experience.

AAA games that are huge and sprawling are that way for a reason. they're AAA so they have the budget, time, artists, developers to make those worlds massive. whereas indie titles seem to hit the mark more for the kind of game you want.

a short focused experience. but there's like... tens of thousands of the kind of games you're looking for. just not many from AAA studios.

or maybe people can teach others. that's not a bad thing. learning from someone who instructs you.
