When it is used to deflect from context that suggests a cause it is dismissing.

Never had any issue falling asleep anywhere between midnight and 8 a.m. and still getting a full restful 6 to 9 hour sleep when I worked late or overnight shifts. Now I work 8-5 because that is where the well paying jobs are and I've been sleep deprived for a couple decades.
Falling asleep in the evening to early night just doesn't work for me for whatever reason. I tried going to bed at 10:00 for a year with only a few successes that meant I woke up at 4 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep.
Like any kind of protest or political action they work often enough to get push back from those in power but are not a guarantee. Their scope also needs to be proportional to what they are boycotting, so the larger the company or political power the more coordination and number of people it takes to get results.
Last year there was a boycott of Sabra, which makes hummus, that successfully changed the ownership from half Pepsi Co and an Israeli company to get the Israeli company to divest. It had a clear goal and a single type of product that was easy for people to understand and get behind the boycott. If someone wanted to boycott Pepsi Co, which not only makes soda but also owns a ton of restaurants and other things, it would be extremely difficult as they could weather the losses in one area due to the scope of the company as a whole.
The Montgomery bus boycott during the US Civil Rights era was extremely successful.
I wasn't horrified when I found it, so apparently normal.
I love the card reader at the tables trend for some restaurants in the US so I don't need to flag down wait staff to pay.
People who who lean towards things literally not being as impacted by vague emotional implications of most advertising not being as susceptible, but not immune, makes a lot of sense. Advertising often tries to associate a feeling with a product without making a direct connection, or by using unrealistic scenarios that anyone who really thinks about it should notice.
For example, a bunch of people having fun at a restaurant makes an association for most people, but someone who more actively thinks about it knows it is actors pretending and not their own personal experience. It can still work if it does reinforce their personal positive experiences though! I saw a retro ad for Showbiz Pizza at one point and was absolutely filled with nostalgia as that place was perfect for my young ADHD and probably on the autism spectrum self. On the opposite end, any ad for Olive Garden pisses me off.
You wanted to go camping but fucked it up because you were drunk.
Which is honed by bombing!
He chose to not listen to medical advice for cancer and instead dragged things out with 'alternative medicine' long enough that real medical treatment wouldn't be successful anymore but still pulled strings to get a transplant.
He was nuts.
When referring to diseases, yeah, but there was also a lot of death from wars and other violence, severe injuries from dangerous labor, and labor was pretty risky. If one was healthy and avoided injury they were certainly on par with modern life spans.
Solid choices.
I also like getting those pickled spicy sausages on road trips, helps with the travel constipation but also means no kisses till I can brush my teeth.
